POD rules for recording IMO.

I have amp simulators for the following:

Marshal (65-today  probably 50different types including plexi, etc)
Fender (same as above)
Hi watt (30 or so)
mesa boogie (tons, can't remember how many)
matchless,
vox,

tubes, solid state.. you name it

then I have 'artist's' patches...

satriani,rush,metallica,hendrix,clapton,johnson,vai, etc etc..

btw vai's sound sux  lol

What kind of stuff do you guys have?

Pre '75 Orange 2x12 Combo amp(by far the loudest amp I've ever used, ok sound quality)
Les Paul Studio (with heavy gauge strings)
Rat distortion pedal (distortion set very low for best string attack)

Ran through an old 70's Ampeg half-stack for ten years that was just super loud and had an incredible sound, but let my old bandmates borrow it when I moved to Brooklyn and lost contact when I left.

With just this simple setup I 've gotten a bigger, meatier sound and better tonal range than any Marshall I've ever played through.

I do not like over an processed sound, but I do like a very large amount of distortion, so I found a good in between somewhere along the way with a combination of old tube amps and newer Gibsons.

and i'm only 16 so don't be calling me old:p and the 80's sucked so bad it puts music to shame all around

but i listen to system of a down and rage against the machine and there both pretty damn good

Just say NO to solid state amps!

oh, and a fully equipped pro studio, including a fully-blown ProTools Mix+ rig

System of a Down is one of the worst excuses for a band ive ever heard. Ill take all that "80's music thats sucks" over that crap any day. Good music has come from every era, shut up and enjoy it. Even that crap you listen to.

NO                            to solid state amps  




Fender deluxe reverb (tweed) with the POD and a Jeff Beck Strat.
all kinds of precessors I never use any more... same with a zoom 9150 rack mount.
I use gage 12 strings.  double humbucker in the neck position, BigFatty picks (about 1/4 inch thick).  Gun metal whammy block ,roller nut.  very fat neck with gibson frets, whammy block is locked down (by me).  

(oh, and a Korg wavestation synth , Cakewalk and Fruity Loops, BBE sonic maximizer, POD, POD editing software w/amp sims)

the amp is a little bluesy for some live stuff so I use the POD and Fender twin with 2 12's.  punchy and the POD modifies it to be pretty warm when needed.. but it's damn loud!  hehe

got rid of:

Marshal 4x12's (late model)
Fender bassman
some weird VOX that was noisy as hell
Mesa Boogie (the 60 watt blonde stack)
          (I miss that almost as much as I miss the stacked blonde!)
pedals galore
small amps galore

(not gonna tell you what happened to MY 61 tele     )

and as far as your strat - lets see, once upon a time i owned a 1957 Gibson L5 hollow body, with the original Johnny Smith pickup. Well, one the way to a gig one fine day i stopped by a friends' place in downtown NYC to borrow an amp for the gig. I double parked the car, locked the doors, ran upstairs for 2 minutes max. Man, you guys have some good stuff. Red Ant, I guess studio work of some sort is your career? The only other guitar I want, besides a nice acoustic, is an ES335(?), the big old Gibson rockabilly guitars. I love them. Been spending my cash on my 50's car, and not currently in a band, so music equipment has gone on the wayside.

Vernon Reid is processed??  Fastest fingers, I've ever heard.  

NOW, with Pink Floyd being my fav. band of all time, he is tops right now.  

Eddie needs to go to Cabo San Lucas and figure out what he wants in life.  He is up there.

Robert Cray and BB King are two hellified guitarists.  Guitar Shorty is one of the best I've seen as well and HE NEVER GETS MENTIONED.

Vernon Reid is BY FAR the most UNDERRATED guitarists out there.
