Went to the boat drags this weekend. They actually held an IHBA sanctioned event in my hometown of Gadsden, AL. So me being a good redneck gearhead spent several hours down there with my kids. Here's a few pics:

Pro Mod boats (I think they were pro mods) on the rope awaiting signal to go to staging area.

This guy shoulda won just because of the coolness of his boat. Twin turbo-charged 550-inch engine. She made a funky sound. :)

Lemme ask HB do you have a truck? If so is there a gunrack in said truck? :D

Oh yea how fast are those boats and what are the typical engines?

This dude gets a free trip to the hospital after he loses control of his boat and goes flying in his parachute at 100+ miles per hour. They said he broke several ribs. His boat sank in about 20 ft. of water 3/4 of the way down the course. They just left the thing on the bottom and finished the qualifying Saturday. After it was all over they hoisted the poor thing outa the mud.

The fastest classes Grunherz were

Alcohol Flatbottom (regular flatbottom hull without the sponsons and alcohol powered 500+ inch engine)

Top Alcohol Hydro (hydroplane hull with 500+ inch alcohol engine)

Top Fuel (Hydroplane with monster 500+ inch 6000+ horsepower nitro-methane burning beast of a mother) These boats coast about $2000-$2500 a run. Just like in NHRA, engines gotta be completely overhauled after evrey run.

Surprisingly, the top fuel boats were not the fastest. Apparantly they were having problems. I can't remember the ET, but the fastest was one of the top alcohol boats that ran 220 miles per hour. :)

Reminded me of our old boat. She's sold now, but here's me at the wheel of our old V-drive about 11-12 years ago. Notice the 90 mph hair-doo's. :D
