Sortie of the Week

Post here your best.  I will start.  Lets hear about your cool missions!

In my best sortie I was my m8 vs. 1 M16 1 Ostwind and 2 Tanks. I went charging in at 60 MPH disabled the M16 first (driving from turret) then shifted to Ostind (took 3 shots) took out his gun then still hauling bellybutton went between the 2 tanks they were covering. I pickeed closest one took out his main gun circled gentle (fast) left - second tank could not bring his gun to bear took him out 2 shots, then as I completed my turn dispatched first tank (he took 5 more hits!) and headed rtb.

edit to add: ON that best sortie the best part was when all 4 of them reupped at spawn point ans started trying to hit my rtb M8. Shells were exploding everywhere they were pissed, but they didnt get me. This was the best part.

Wadke,

I just checked your stats and it seems you found a bug.

You do indeed have lots of kills in the Spitfire Mk V, 303 to be precise.  However, 298 of those kills are of gunners.

It seems that if the bomber has a gunner and he tries to bail it gives a free kill to the attacker, much like the old pilot trying to bail gave a kill bug in 1.10.0.

OK..... so I am pondering my next move when I see a call for troops to A19.  Seeing one of our Task Groups is just offshore, I jump into an LVT and head for the town.  Hmmm looks longer than I thought, but I decide to keep on going at least for now.... keep checking the map - then realise I am actually heading towards P21, south of A19!  :o

Oh well, too late to turn around now, and it looked like there was plenty of friendly activity at A19 anyway.  If they get that, they will want P21 next, so I'll just keep on going - maybe I'll get lucky and sneak in.... still, it is an awfully long way for a little LVT!

A few minutes pass and I see "A19 captured by Bishops" come up in the text buffer - "WTG 19" I respond, and continue on my way, more determined than ever.  "Troops needed at P21" soon followed, and I let my fellow countrymen know I was on the way in an LVT.... meanwhile, a few minutes later, I see a goon drop troops.... unfortunately there are numerous GVs up at P21, and they soon take care of them.

"VH at P21 is up" I type on the country channel, hoping someone will destroy it and kill the vehicles still swarming around..... then I see the PT boat, about 1.5 K away!  I don't want to open fire as it might attract the attention of enemy fighters in the area, so I slightly change my course to avoid it instead, watching it all the time.... if I can see him, then surely he can see me?

I held off as long as I dared, but then noticed it was closing fast.... it's no good, I can't risk being shot down now after coming all this way - so I opened fire!  After a few bursts, the PT boat exploded in a ball of fire and I saw I had just killed Tahgut(?)....  :)

Sure enough, he came on channel one - and asked what I was in when I killed him?  WHAT!!!, he hadn't seen my LVT after all???  "Ah that would be telling!" I said as I continued to near the town of P21..... no sense in letting him know I was in an LVT with troops heading for his Port's town if he didn't know already!  :D

Of course, by then I had attracted the attention of the enemy fighters and spent the next few minutes fending several of them off, by now with the assistance of my fellow Bishops who were doing their utmost to ensure I reached to town unharmed.

Shortly before I reached the town, Kill #2 flashed across my screen - a delayed kill on one of the fighters that had attacked me earlier!  Great, now I will just have to make sure I park on one of the footpaths in the town and I can land the kills too......  :)

By now the town is looming in my front view, and I shift the gears down to start slowing down, and hopefully avoid any debris lying about - would be a shame to crash into a piece of buiding after coming all this way!  I had already set my salvo to 10 and opened the door, and as the maproom came into view, I pushed them all out and watched as they ran towards it.... meanwhile I found a stretch of pathway to pull up on and came to a halt.  "Maproom destroyed"!!!  Yes, I had done it!

Goodness knows how long it had taken to get there - must have been about half-an-hour at least, I think, but to finally make it against all the odds gave me a great feeling of satisfaction - thanks to all the Bishops in the area who fought off the fighters and ground vehicles, as I'm sure I would not have been successful if it hadn't been for you!  The capture and landing of two kills resulted in 15.83 perkies to add to my total in readiness for future perked vehicles....  :D  Just wish I had filmed it!

I haven't had much time to fly this latest tour, but my first brief mission was quite memorable:

I entered AH in the tower at A22 on the west coast of Mindanao, looking towards the mountains to the east and within seconds a volley of naval gunfire came right over me and landed a few hundred yards inland.

Hitting f8, I turned and "ran" to the other side of the tower.  Not more than a couple of miles/3 km offshore was an enemy carrier battle group, heading north.  Silhouetted against the bright western sky, it looked enourmous so close to shore.

I immediately checked to see if the coastal defense guns were available.  The south one was occupied, but the north one was intact and unmanned.  I jumped to the gun emplacement, and...

...There is the task group steaming into my lower left field of fire!

My first shot at the carrier (CV), at maximum depression of the gun (I'm on a hill), was just 30-40 yds long...he was too close, but moving right into position.  My third shot hit the CV's stern, but he continued.  A moment later I hit him again, and he began to make a u-turn away from me.  As this huge target turned hard infront of me, I kept dropping shells on either side, missing by just a few dozen yards.  But as soon as he completed his turn and straigtened out, I hit him a third time and he just disappeared and I got a ship destroyed message.

A pretty exciting way to start the tour!

But please explain this:

Perks received:  0.25  :(

Points received:  35,301.2683  :D

had didja not think it was a bug?

you obvisously didnt shoot down  all them planes. :)

Even if 1 hispano = 1 kill theres no way you could have scored kills like that.

The reason you only got 3 perks was because you only get perks by shooting down planes not proxy kills.

was that this tour? I know there was a problem with buff kills when 1.1 was 1st released.

Please post the circuimstances on the bug forum.

I had taken off from A7 on the island map headed for a12, no plan just looking for a fair fight.

I took off in a Ki-61 with 50% and drop tanks and chugged over as you do in a KI-61, and arived at around 16k.

Now with the new radar you cant see the nme dots on the map so I upped my SA and started looking, then down below I saw another Ki-61 and a friendly plane,  so I jettison my tanks and dive down on him.

Now the nme Ki-61 was diveing in on my countryman but was quite far away, so because I was consentrating I didn't give a check six, thinking I'd surprise him and get the kill while he was fixed on his target,

I saddled up behind him and let rip and missed oops, he's now getting really close to my countryman and I start to panic as hes now opened up on my teammate and I haven't killed him yet (I was sucking bad) Teammate breaks and I continue the chase and take out his engine so I break of as I'm now bingo ammo!

the nme tries to chase but i'm not to worried as I'm pulling away but he's spraying away, and then my teammate finishes him and I have kill #1

I still have plenty of fuel so I return to A7 to rearm, thinking about how I sucked on that sortie, almost costing the life of my teammate.

So I takeoff again and head back to a12 this time with a friend in a SpitIX (he keeps asking me why I'm going so slow,  Duh!)

we climb upto around 18k and head for the base, the plan - look for easy targets,

When we get close we see Klem and Gremlin below us engaged with an nme, but we see so upping from the base so we stay high.

But with Klem and gremlin lower they soon draw attention so we go down to help, and all end up at sea level with us four and, 3 niki's acouple og la-7's, spit IX's and a 109, so I resighn myself to the fact that I wont be going home as my planes to slow :(

But....

Somhow I clear the 109 of the six of someone, get a couple of nikis and whist engaged with a spit IX (behind me) I get slow and end up with flaps down etc, super slow turn stuff and the spit augers, so I get the Proxy kill,

Whooo Hoo   I know have an Ace run and I'm all outta cannon shells so I rtb,  unfortunatley I hear my friend shouting for assistance as he has an la-7 on his six followed by silence.......

I'm now flying  NOE as I dont want to show up on radar, but the LA-7 that got my friend spots me and starts to chase and I'm not even halfway home, the adrenalin is pumping and I what the distance count down,  3.6     3.5      3.4     3.0

I'm looking at my 200 mg round thinking mmm, oh well, then I see two dots up ahead its Magez (in Abomber formation and Gremlin flying cover. but their the same distance ahead as the la-7 is behind,  it's going to be close...

I ask for help and Gremlin -  (give him a medal) tells  magez he'll be back and comes to my assistance, the la-7 is about 1k behind me when he gets to him and he breaks off me.

Phewwww..  :)

All I had to do was land which I did and I had my first Ace in a ki-61 :D

It may have been more by luck than skill, but it was exciting :D
and I got a shed load of perks :D
