Heya Hitech, did you hear the news?

http://www.x-plane.com/BETA.html

After all the banter and requests,.. austin is going multiplayer combat also.

Alot of people told him about online combat, maybe he looked at aces/warbirds... etc...

Should be very cool indeed.

Gonna be a long road ahead of this endeavor for him though...  but surely worthwhile in the end.

:)

I own X-plane 5x, but have not bothered with 6x

As I recall, Xplane had the unique distinction of making it almost imposible to "loop" a plane because of some strange code that has lingered for YEARS.  Your plane would pitch up, and reach 89.9 degrees, but would never allow you to actually go past 90 degree straight up (it artificially induced roll as you reached the apex).

Now Xplane is fun.  Its a hoot designing your own planes and such, but a basic thing like having the ability to loop was left unfixed for a Loooong time.  It is my understanding the issue has been addressed now, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

LoL Crimson Skies!!!

Just think an X-Plane MMOG where you can fly whatever you want with any weapon u want lolol

Worthwhile?.... I doubt it very much...   its a ridiculous idea, unless some controls are in place for parity between players..

I bet HT saw that news and started seriously planning his retirement +Q

Heya alf, yeah im with you on the looping problem... it once had that issue.  Its been a long time since that was fixed, along with various other enhancments.

Crimson skies eh?

naw... think not :)  more like Possiblities, you have to understand, its just beginning.

The most important part of the "Simulation" has been adressed.. (the flight model). Now if austin gets the same level of fedelity that the physics engine achieves for flight, and does the same for a networking/server setup. Well.... I think we all know the answer to that one.  It will definatly be a winner.

As far as the idea of fighting a hypothetical F-15 versus P51 scenerio, well.. I dont think that would go to well, I think he has yet to impose rules/arenas or play setup for these situations.

Its will definatly be interesting though, to see how the damage model, is taken into effect.  If, and this is a big if.....

If the  damage model is as dynamic as the flight physics, it will be revolutionary. Graphically,, I think that because of the ability to even further push the polycount per plane, for airflow calculations, will allow an even greater amount of flight detail as a byproduct.

I definatly dont think Hitech has anything to worry about ...  not for now,.. and definatly not for a long time.  If x-plane does go the way of massive multiplay though, and a new view system, well... who knows... maybe laminar research and hitech creations can be each others competitor, pushing each other even further for progress.   Its all speculation.... at that point.. who knows. :)

oh well,.. waiting and watching :)

Heh.  Sounds like gimble lock.  Sounds like someone was using Euler angles in his rotation calculations instead of a matrix.  Or better yet, quaternions.

I like X-Plane.  I don't have the latest version but I do think I downloaded it a while ago to check progress.

As far as flight dynamics, I have never seen anything in X-Plane that AH doesn't do just as well.  In some cases better.  The only exception might perhaps be in transonic dynamics, which are outside AH's area of interest.

IMO,
Wab

Quaternions are GREAT! especially sauteed in butter and shallots.

Hey Nuttz you every try the quaternions with drawn butter?.. Deee- lisious

My favorite is quaternion kababs on an open BB-que

Hey Yo, stop hoggin' the transonic matrix!!!

"Your plane would pitch up, and reach 89.9 degrees, but would never allow you to actually go past 90 degree straight up (it artificially induced roll as you reached the apex)"

Gimbal lock.
You often run into that problem with 3D-animation packages, although newer packages will let you work around it.

hehe For the love of god.

There is NO problem with looping in x-plane geeze :)  Get over it guys :)

That problem "looping" ( a bug ) was fixed a very ( very very) long time time ago.

As far as the Multiplayer, and massive multiplayer portion, there is a team working on a dedicated server/networking frameset for this.

Think about this as well, you know when people want certain particular types of aircraft? Gvs?... For aces high. We all plea for them right?

Wouldnt it be nice to have the community have the option of adding various requested models as fast as the requests are made?  Well, with x-plane its going to be this way. :)

And as for the continuous banter about this looping issue, which has (been corrected) for quite some time. This is almost analagous with the "Touch a tree" in your panzer and blow up event in Aces high.  (its a bug, and will/has been fixed) issue.

The newest version is 6.25, so for those who have said that the last thing they saw was from version 4.0 hehe or 5.0, well of course your outlook may be somewhat skewed, geeze. Check the latest version and then express your opinions.

I mean, I wouldnt say.. ahh man... aces high.. that program what a peice of poop, its only got 5 planes, the flight model is whacky, and theres not even ground vehicles.. Of course my opinion would be this way if I was still playing Beta!    ;)

Anyway, yep. :)

Im looking forward to it...  as many others :p

Well, let us know when it goes beta, OK?

Thanks for the heads up.  'Bye now.

Gimbal lock Shmibal Lock....just parent the object to a null. If the null gimble locks who gives a damn, ya still have the objects rotation to work with. Golly-geened Gimbals who gave then the keys in the first place!!! Was probably Laz :D :D :D
