In case you didn't notice, this game relies heavily on the size of the player base LePaul.

Is it worth it to HTC to write a new engine that only 1/2.. or less... can play on?

My guess is no.

The next big upgrade retires me.  But I think it must be done within the next year, maybe two.  I look forward to both :)

You gotta figure your going to upgrade every two years or so anyway. I upgraded for WBIII but I was due anyway.

Throwing the lastest graphics card or upgrading your CPU if your MB supports it is a cheap holding manuver.

I'm maxed on my MB ( 1.2 T-Bird ) so I have a graphics card upgrade or two left on this machine.

This is my main game and I figure when they get around to it, I'll be due once again.

Fun building a toybox anyway :)

No.  If my current machine isn't fast enough, we'd be screwed as there isn't much that is significantly faster.

Athlon XP 1800+
GeForce4 4600
512mb PC2100
WindowsXP Pro

I can upgrade the processor, but even there it isn't too far from the top.  What else could I change?

You mean you want me to give up my Commidor64 that is attached to my Mom's black and white TV?  I guess it is about time for me to get rid of this old Atari joystick I've been using.  I better pick up another paper route though.  Hope there are no dogs like the one at the Jones house.  I have to bring a sacrifical Kitten every sunday just to get close enough to lob the Sunday paper on the porch.  Oh well, everyone has to sacrifice something don't they.  I think my neighbor is getting suspicious now.  She is down to only 99 cats.  Wish they were more like bunnies! :D

Karnak, at this point there really aren't any *significant* upgrades to perform.  Sure you could buy the XP 2600+, get a new KT333 based motherboard, and upgrade to pc2700 RAM.  You could then overclock both your cpu and your graphics card.  All in all, you *might* notice a difference of a few frames per second.  Sure, it looks nice that the new Radeon 9700 can play quake3 at over 300 frames per second...but one thing to remember...your eye can't go over 30 fps.

The real benefit to the upgrades is how the game handles when it has a bucketload of stuff to do...like process smoke effects from multiple sources, vertex shading, anti aliasing, z-buffer clears, etc.  That is where the powerhouse graphic cards shine...and your 4600 is no slouch.

jonnyb,

The human eyes sees at slightly over 60fps.  That's why a 60hz refresh rate shimmers, looks like crap and gives you a headache.

My point was exactly that, there is not a significant upgrade for me, so my answer was no.

For people with sub-gigahertz systems though, upgrades are well within reason.

I assumed it was a rehetorical question
I just upgraded to an 1800 athelon, kt333 mb pc2700 ram and a radeon 8500, almost all for AH. I assume that will get me by for a year or so, but I would have no qualms about upping the ram to 512 the video to ati9700 and the processor to a 2600 tomorow if HT wrote a cloud, terrain and Aircraft model to match or exceed IL2. If most of you had played IL2 on a good pc you wouldnt either....

Well, what I have noticed is Aces High is really processor intensive.  Not so much intensive on the graphics end vs. being processor intensive, almost like it does most of the work on the processor core, not so much on the video cards.

It would be cool to see HTC move Aces upto DX9 level, and move more graphics processing onto the cards.  Cards now days support 64 and 128mb ram, but still Aces only uses about 24mb of video ram.  More textures please!

Also something else I would love to see with Aces High is multithreaded or dual processor support.  For those of us who do have dual Intel Xeon’s like my self.

As a computer owner ive in my mind that I need to improve my PC , let's say ....every 1 Year  or so.
Nevertheless I think that AH needs a little better graphics.
On the other way I'd like to have better connx first:D
