Austin Powers 3 / Goldmember... see it?
« on: August 28, 2002, 10:24:00 AM »
Went to see this 2 weeks ago with the girlfriend.  While its funny, overall...its not nearly as good as the second one.  Yes, many many great scenes and skits...but all together, more of a groaner.

Anyone else see it?  What did you think?  (Try not to ruin it for those that havent!  There are many cool Mini-Me scenes I'd love to mention, but dont wanna ruin for others haha)

I thought it sucked balls.
Only laughed once, during the opening scene.
Thats it.

The friggin movie is an endless string of potty jokes and advertizement. Every other image in that movie contains some form of advertizement, it felt like a two hour comercial.

Yea, the opening scene was quite good.

There were several funny spots in the movie, but they trashed the movie so good, if there's an Austin Powers 4, I'll be amazed.

Then again, the girlfriend was doing things to me in the theater, so I missed a few parts!   :o :)

It was no where near as funny as the first or second movies.  But considering that Goldmember cost US$63 Million to make, and it took in US$73 Million during the opening week alone, I bet there will be a forth.

I love the first one. A dedicatede spoof olf the 60s spy movie genre in particular and the Bond films in specific. It was witty, fresh (so much as parody can be) and told a story that had redeaming value, imho.

The second movie was simply a parody of the first. Same jokes, only moreso. It no lnoger seemed fresh and witty, and they threw out the redeaming value from the first movie. But at the same time, it was pretty funny.

The third movie. Worth the cheap ticket. Not much more.  Foxy Cleopatra stole the show if you ask me. I had hoped that they would spend more time in the 1970's and could bring back the theme of contrasting social values, but instead they only stopped there long enough for a few sight gags and to pick up a sidekick.

I think I'll just watch the first one on video tape this weekend.

I think it was better than the second, but not as good as the first.

Sounds like every movie that comes out of Hollywood.  Not sure when it all changed.  But, it's absolutely rediculous now.

I LIKE potty jokes.
I concur with Dowding's rating.
Laughed my bellybutton off regardless.

I liked it.  It was just another funny Austin Powers movie...if you were looking for something new, then you should have looked elsewhere - you ain't gonna get it with a sequel.

"SOB at Work"

WTF? Someone else was dumb enough to hire you?

I liked AP3 for the most part.  I, like dowding, would place it betwen 1 and 2.

I thought it was less than that. And just because it was a sequel doesn't mean couldn't take a different direction than it did.

Ah.. gotcha... this was the temp job you were talking about.  I just assumed you would have been fired long ago.

Now shut up and get that IT degree so Boeing can outsource Rip's job to you.

I already have plans in place to move to India & take up a position with Boeing once my education is complete.  I will get placed there through the mail-order groom program.
