How to easliy get ranked in the top 100
« on: September 03, 2002, 05:57:07 PM »
1. At the start of the tour, do nothing but bombing runs. Kill factories, and airfield items such as bunkers, fuel, barracks. Do this a day.

2. After scoring a bunch of points bombing, get into a vehicle, ostie, panzer or pt, and shoot down guys.  Do this a day.

3. Go on a bunch of attack runs in missions or by yourself.  Strafe and destroy hangars or field items. Do this a day.

4. Get into your favorite plane and fly the rest of the tour in the top 100, no matter how badly you fly.

I dont play with score in mind.Kinda takes the fun out of it.Im one of the guys that WILL go in there and get dirty straffing ack alone just to get some of it down for the next guy.Scores nice if it means something to ya,but for me.Its more fun getting something done.Even taking off from a vulched base to try to stop a goon.I may be more balls than brains in a dogfight but I have more fun doing it:D

It actually does Turbot, :)

Spend some effort in Bombers, GV's and jabo run in beginning of tour, and you can fly whatever you want in the rest of the tour.

For some reason it is much harder to get total rank up late in the tour. I dunno why, but this is my experience as well.

I gave up on getting a high total rank, couple of tours ago. It doesn't mean anything to me anymore.

I'm usually ranked high in Fighters and Attack anyway, but I always use the last couple days to do a few bombers and GV sorties to get my rank up.

I don't care so much about my personal rank, but a few guys in the squad take pride in the squad rank so I try not to let em down.

Rank is cool. Stats are cool and scores are cool.

I only care for my kill ratio

like 0- 12 on spit IX in my trusty p38
or 2- 15 against La-7
and many more ..  :D

I'm not afraid to do a 1 vs 1 one against anyone in the score rank 100

The scores are always open to interpretation. Not only must you look at the score, but you must also take into consideration how the pilot was flying at the time, where, in what, and with whom. Score, on its own, means nothing.  For example, there's a high ranking guy that I know, and when you look at his stats you would be impressed. But then you have to know the what/where/with whom parameters to make sense of it. And the guy I'm thinking about always goes mob-handed to an enemy field, typically flying an LA7. He gets lots of vulch kills, and when he gets into trouble, he can outrun anything else to get back to the safety of his friendlies. A case of riding on the coat tails of your friends, and about as meaningful as the number of votes "cast" for Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe.

I get frustrated because the scores do not reward what *I* do, which is to strive primarily for field captures, or to defend fields. I don't give a crap about racking up points on the scoreboard, but they can serve as an indicator of performance. I like to view the stats to see what's killing me most, what I'm killing most, and which plane is working for me the best.

Other than that, I'm not interested. I couldn't tell you who's at the top of the board today. A little while ago, it was Cuckoo, but he flies dweeb planes like NIKs and LA7s almost exclusively. No challenge in that, and if one has to fly those planes to get into the top 100, well then you're never going to see me in the top 100. :p

BUG_EAF - we are so alike! I always note that LA7 ratio. :D Mine is currently 14-3. Not quite as good as yours. :)

Hey wait a minute - it gives my Attack Rank as 98, and Attack Rank against enemies as 30. I've only just noticed, as a result of checking the board before posting here. Well, I don't know how I did that.  Shows how much faith I have in "scores".

Overall rank seem to work pretty much that way, I've tested it although that was quite some time ago.

do you realize this could describe any number of people?

one of the stats i generally find amusing for myself is my performance vs 38's.

27- 12 vs them in la7
11 - 1 vs them in a pony-d

41-13 overall.

and i generally go at 'em 1 on 1 (unless they have buddies around) in a variety of situations, usually from a disadvantage and pretty much tnb.

fork-tailed weevils must dieeeee!!!  :p

oh, and i agree, it's pretty easy to game some of the stats for ranking.  awright i confess, i game the buff and gv scores, sorta, to try and maintain a good rank, just cuz i know it *has* to be burning some score/rank potato (or an entire squad) to see me ranked above 'em.  bwahahahahaha.  ;)

<--- gratitious dig at some other thread.
