There always seems to be a lot of talk of spies. I actually place some stock in this even though it often comes across as a bit paranoid. However, I have flown enough under-dar deep enemy missions often enough to be suspicious of lifters well into the air by the time we trip the rear base.

My question is: What is the official HiTech position on spies? If it's considered part of the realism, then we need ways to cull information then, maybem kick a spy from our country with, say, an exile vote. Otherwise, what means do we have to fight spying?

I don't fly much anymore, but saw the number imbalance the rooks have had the last few times I logged in. So I changed to Rooks after the third time logging in as rooks I changed back to knights from all the people calling me a spy, etc. etc. etc. You should of welcomed the help instead of complaining about spies.

Spies make it almost a "must" in choosing to join a squadron.

When the ASSASSINS plan a field capture, we do not put up a mission, we don't tell anyone what field we are inbound to, we never broadcast on any open channel where our troops are coming from or where the goon/m3 current is located.

Hence we never worry about spies, instead we worry about peeking up over the dar altitude and showing up on the sector bar.

As for HTC's position, well, I don't think they really have one, after all how they gonna stop it?

If someone will go thru all the trouble of changing teams and waiting hours to come back just so that they can tell a few pals where a mission is heading, then whatever, let them be.

Why do they have to wait? They can give intel real time while fighting the odd country out.

Not to mention there are numbered frequencies which are cross-country. So, if the channel was kept clear, he could relay to his squaddies the position of "friendly" dots. Anyway, milnko is right, if you're in a squadron and you make sure the channel you're using is kept free of unknowns, then everything is fine. And, yes, we rooks are a bit paranoid. You would be too if you lost as much as we do.

Spying is still there, but not that much.

If you say the taget of your mission on mission channel, just after the mission starts, chances to be spied are very low. If you say it on open, it is a chance that you will meet couple high 109g10s somewhere, where there shall not be any. But still, not very often.

I don't use mission text at all. Last time it was not secure, with opposing country players on it. This was about 2 months or so ago. Could have been a lag problem tho. Don't know why it did that.

I usually try to get on a common mission voice channel, (and not the one titled "mission", but one with a (squad) number assigned. Squad text is the most secure, but unless you're in a big squad with members of that squad present...squad text is limited. Range voice is not effective, imo, for capture missions.

BTW, nothing can be done about spies in AH. It goes with the territory, and since this is a game, doesn't do any real harm...just adds to the fun factor.

Question: What do you do if the guy that ranks #3 in total score suddenly changes to your country, takes control of your CV, attempts to drag it out in front of the enemy to get it sunk?

...

Answer: You better pray you have the #1 pilot in your side.

This post is based on real events:

* though the gastly attempt was thwarted by our very own Cuckoo, the CV managed to survive for only a short moment longer. An enemy mission formed that flew two sectors across the waters straight to the hidden CV, knocking it out.

* the really surprising part is, this was the second attempt at the exact same thing this "spy" had done at his previous stay with the Rooks. The guy comes in again, people start getting mad at him, denies that he is a spy, then seizes the CV again and flings it into enemy path.

Is this still part of the game? Or is this just plain abuse of the rank system?

When the sides are totally out of balance, and you switch sides to try to help the situation out, the bad mouthing is incredible. Everyone wants sides balanced...but if someone hops sides to do so, the whinning begins in earnest.

I've dropped sides a few times to try to balance things out. The squad I was in considered this a terrible no-no and claimed it was one of the reasons I wasnt re-invited back. Funny, you'd think these squads and their *honor* would endorse such noble behavior. Pffft.

Spies....dunno the real position on it. Anyone can go into channel 1 and blab about a mission upping. Its just how the game goes.
