Ki-100 Information
« on: September 12, 2002, 07:22:00 AM »
Ki-100 was last IJAAF fighter.
It is only 580km/h fighter, but many IJAAF pilots reviewed this fighter as excellent. Mainly it fought against F6F, F4U, P-51, B-29.

It had 1,500hp Engine (Ki-61-I had only 1,175hp engine).
It was lighter than AH Ki-61-I (at basic weight).
It had exellent acceleration by good power loading and Ki-61's body.
It had much improved weight balance by removing radiator, ballasts, and long nose...etc (good weight balance improves maneuverability).
It had very strong body and wing.

Good Points:
Excellent acceleration.
Excellent turner.
Excellent dive performance.
Good climb performance.
Good Armament.
Good visibility (with Bubble canopy).

Bad Point:
Slow speed.
It is low-med alt fighter.

I'd much like to see Ki-100 in Aces High! :)

I've always wanted to do a Ki-44. It would be a hoot with those super low velocity 40mms. But we'll probably do a Zero first and for an Army plane, I'd be more partial to a Ki-100 first so that we can recycle it into a Ki-61.

I'd love to see it.  Ki-43, Ki-44, and Ki-84 too.

One question, how did it have a strong wing when the Ki-61 had such weak wings that the cannons had to be mounted in the cowl?

ra,

Ki-61 could put MG151/20 20mm cannons on the wing.
Because Ho-5 cannon is larger than a gun position of Ki-61's wing, Kawasaki couldn't put it.

Ki-61's wing is never broken at 15G (at 2950kg weight) in the destruction test.

I think I would much prefer the Ki-61-II.  it was a superior plane in all respects.

The Ki-100 was most known and loved for its simplicity and reliability during a time when the rest of the Japanese air force was falling apart due to lack of maintenance and spares.

First the Ki-84, then the Ki-61-II has my vote.
