From the WW2Online forums:
I received a phone call tonight from Carrot's parents. Barry passed away around 2AM Auckland time Saturday (around 11AM Friday EDT time.) I was expecting a phone call from Barry, instead of this news.
The Hayes family wishes to express their gratitude to everyone that posted to wish Barry well, and also to those that found it in their heart to donate to the "Put Some Cabbage in the Carrot Patch" Fund. When she is up to it, Mama Carrot (Mrs. Hayes) will be sending her thanks to be posted here.
Barry was in great pain for the last week, and the doctors had difficulty contolling it. The tumor had begun bleeding in reaction to the chemotherapy, and the pain and pressure were more than any of the brain surgeries. He began to sink suddenly, but was able to go home to spend his last hours, where Hospice was able to stop the pain for the last 12 hours. He died peacefully, with his family at his side.
The Hayes family requests that people that wish to remember Barry donate to their local Hospice, instead of sending flowers. I'm sorry, I don't have any details on funeral arrangements. Although his family knew that this day would come, it happened rather suddenly and I was in no position to pry.
If anyone wants to send cards or letters, you can email me and I will give you my address. I will gather them up and mail to the Hayes. I am not posting their address due to the nature of the Internet. I hope you all understand. I'll pay the postage to New Zealand.
As soon as I hear from the family, I will pass it along.
