a true historical squad
« Reply #15 on: October 02, 2002, 03:41:23 AM »
Frenchy,

never understood the people that choose historical squads (names) and fly just what dweebiest plane is available. La7s landing kills for LW squads really annoy me!

I chose 9./JG54. We had/have a strict LW only rule - our squad was based on that - and we lost some good buddies along the way due to that. I chose the restriction myself. Sometimes it's hard because LW lacks in so many fields in AH. We don't have a Jabo comparable to a Tiffy or a P47 and we have nothing close to a heavy bomber. My record is more or less clean - Zekes off the CV, a Macchi from time to time (to have fun)... but you'll find me 98% in a 190!

I don't mind my non-JG54 buddies flying whatever plane they like - I might mock them on voice but its their choice. Everyone fly what they want but it makes no sense to choose a historical squad name then!

just a clarification... our members can fly whatever planes they want in the MA when they are on their own.  when we have a few guys online though, we always link up and fly jugs... except for the other day when we were flying temps and spit 14s :D   gotta spend the perks on something until we get our P-47M. ;)

Well... here is our shot at being a true historical squadron on current tour (32).

Lentolaivue 34,

Bf 109G-2
K/D: 2,5    (235/95)

Bf 109G-6
K/D: 8,1    (138/17)

total:
K/D: 3,3    (373/112)

... it is a tough job though, since the REAL LeLv34 had a K/D of 19,2  (345/18)   :)

We don'tfly P47 only off course, we need some "sanity break". Heck the other day I took a FW-D9 up and landed 16 kills ... and you know what? I had the best time of my life! Starting a climb and say "wooW" ... diving away and shooting "so long sucka!(TM)" ... Or outturning spitfires in FM2.

Every plane is a joy in AH and it's a waste not to enjoy them... but Kirin got the idea. It sadden me to repeatidly read "irrelevant" kill messages, or worse, squads who predent being historical and when u check their stats, only the CO and XO fly their historical planes.

In the same line of thoughts, when I read :
"AGalant landed 4 kills in a LA7 from jgxx"
 or
"Gabreski landed 7 kills in N1K1 from %$==56thFG==$%"
it makes me shake my head.

That's why I give an extra "wow" to squads where ALL pilots still manage to focus on their historical planes. It doesn't make me disrespect the rest of the crowd (to set the record straigh) but true historical squad pilots have my consideration.

I remember a few tours back checking Gabreskis stats and seeing that he finished the tour with around 1500 kills, about 30 were in P-47's the rest were in Ponies with a fair amount in Niki's La7's etc... It just don't seam right to use that name and fly Nikis.

My 2 cents worth,

One thing Frenchy forgot to mention was that we have a strict hazing policy for 56th pilots that have the audacity to fly one of the uber dweeb rides. For instance one night Pollock decided to hop into a Niki. Although it was quite entertaining to watch him HO guys from 1000 yards out, he woke up to the following image in his mailbox:D :D :D

Not in a squad but here's my p47 stats

11.0 / KD  53/5 (D11) 2/0 (D30)

not too shabby especially flying rook (you bishtard's have weighted stats )

:)

my g10 stats are 35/1 :D

just goes to show plane does matter.. in the LA7 dweebery arena

I happy you brought this up 56th I laugh at the dweebyness of the supposed good pilots for Luftwaffe or US squads landing la7 and typhoon kills every other sortie.

When you look at the stats of these score potatos on the top 100 most of them got freaking shipgunner kills and other dweebery padding their stats.

Salute to the 56th (p47's) and the 13th Tas for their mustang loyalty.

Even though like I said earlier you bish tards have weighted stats.  Good thing there is no attrition model in this game Bish would bankrupt their country on the 15th of every month.
