What is it about flightsims where planes sitting on the ground don't actually look like they're sitting on the ground?  I've yet to see a flightsim get this effect "right" (perhaps one of the civilian sims does as I haven't played 'em).

Maybe it's the difference of texture quality; the planes are generally much more detailed than the ground, so when you look at a very detailed plane sitting on a blurry terrain, your brain sees that "something" is wrong...

Right. You'd expect more detail  but that wouldn't really be possible. Higher detailed objects look closer than low detailed ones.

That screenshot was taken on the airfield... for whatever reason, it's more blurred than the actual terrain area. (If I taxi on that and take a screenshot, it actually looks fine)

As for the plane, I take it "Ugly as Sin" was the first thing that came to everyone's mind?

Nah, it's not as esthetically pleasing as your other work.

Is it supposed to look like a rabid cow?  ;)

What was the intent behind this skin?

J_A_B, I tried placing the plane on the terrain rather than the airfield, and it still looks like it's floating in the air, despite the much finer detail textures.

Then it occured to me, it's the shadowing. Objects closer to the ground cast a much darker shadow than something higher above it.

So things like the landing gear would cast a darker shadow inside of the wing shadow (which would be very light).

That's what I figger the problem is.

Thrawn, I did that skin in about a half hour. Just kind of threw it together. Dunno what possessed me to do it, but now I have an idea for it...

Cracked out mad cow. :)
