ermm the MX 420 has a hook up for the monitor, any monitor made for pc's within the last 8-10 years should connect just fine...

Return the 420mx and get a better one. It sucks anyways even if you get it working.

Get at least Gf4 4200 or stick with the old card unless it's a TNT2.

Obviously if the card's connector and monitors connector are different size, you'll need either a new monitor or an adapter. Maybe the gf4 has only a DVI out in which case you'll need an analog vga adapter to get out any signal from it.

If you post the brand of the card that might help. And the monitor too.  Punctuation is also good as well .

Did you assign an IRQ to VGA in the BIOS?

All Nvidea cards require an IRQ be assigned to VGA in the BIOS, without it you get the problem your describing.

You really should return the card and at a minimum buy a GF4-MX440.
