Just Win Baby!
Week 5: Bills-Raiders Postgame Quotebook
Quarterback Rich Gannon
On the touchdown pass to Charlie Garner:
"We were getting a lot of combination coverage's. We talked about it on the sidelines. It was something we had worked on through out the course of the week. I just reminded Charlie in the huddle to be patient and not be to quick with it; make sure you sell the move. He ran a great route, made a great catch and made a great run after the catch. That was a big play in the game because the momentum was swinging back and forth. It was just unbelievable what was happening out there."
On it being difficult or fun to play in a game like this:
"Well, it is fun in a way but at the same time it is very difficult. You know that the margin of error is very small. If you make a mistake, it might be the kind to finish your day. That was the way it was. I didn't want to make any mistakes. I didn't want to turn the ball over or put our defense in a bad position. I thought the offense did a pretty good job of controlling the football and not making mistakes. That was the difference in the game today."
On the Bills defense today:
"They had a good plan. I give them a lot of credit. I think we caught them off balance a couple of times. It wasn't easy out there today. We had to work for everything we got. It was a hard fought game that came down to a couple of plays."
On expecting this kind of production out of the offense:
"We feel like each week we are making improvements. Today, we did some really good things. There was some tight coverage out there, so the completions were down a little bit. I thought we missed a couple plays where we got caught in a couple of protections we didn't want to be in."
On his age and experience playing a factor in not panicking:
"I didn't sense any panic. The thing that is interesting is that we knew coming in what kind of game it was going to be. We talked about it. We did not come in here and expect to dominate from the get-go and get a three touchdown lead. That just doesn't happen every week. We knew it was going to be a back and forth type game. Their offense is very explosive as well. You could tell from the get-go that it was going to be one of those games where you have to keep pace with them. If you can't match them, then you have to step aside. I felt like that was the way it was going to be most of the day. It was kind of a back and forth type of game. It was going to come down to a couple of plays in the fourth quarter and that's what happened."
On Langston Walkers' play:
"I thought he played great. Here is a guy who took most of the reps in practice; really didn't know and probably didn't plan on making the start. All of a sudden he has to go in and start. It reminds me a little bit of what happened to Barry Sims a couple of years ago. We came here a couple of years ago and Barry Sims had to go in and start. He played a whale of a game and didn't give up any sacks. I thought Langston played a great game. He hung in there and battled. I thought he showed a lot of poise and I was really proud of the way he played. I'm happy for him. He stepped up."
