And without KS, you'd be saving me from the enemy and shooting me down yourself in your scenario -- I don't see how I'm any worse off now.
Besides, since the Skulls are no more, I don't see that either of us is obligated to clear the other's 6, especially when the other has allowed an enemy to fly so far up his butt that a clean shot is impossible. The enemy on my butt is my problem, or my wing's.
That said, I've done plenty of 6 clearing, and have never
ever killed myself accidentally with killshooter. I suspect it's because I'm firing to scare the enemy off, rather than for the kill per se. This means that I take short bursts at long range; the bullet drop makes it unlikely that fire hitting the enemy will also hit the friendly, and the short burst limits my exposure to KS.
I think I have died to KS twice, maybe, and both times I was fooling around shooting at squad mates -- intentional KS death.
