Whoohoo, landed my first kill!!!!
« on: July 16, 2000, 04:03:00 PM »
I finally actually got to land after getting a kill!!!!

I took a Bf109G-10 and climbed out of A35, flew towards the HQ and then north towards V61.  A slightly higher Spit tried to get me, but I out ran him only taking some light hits.  About half way to V61, I cam accross a gagle of enemy fighters (and one bomber).  The target that looked best to me was a 109, but as I dove in on him he turned tight to the left.  I was unwilling to waste my E trying to follow him so I extended at full power and came back, this time selecting a P-38.  I closed in on him and at 500 I opened fire.  He never manuevered and as I quickly adjusted my aim and walked my fire into him his tail desintigrated.  I extended away taking some hits from a Typhoon at extreme range.  I looped gently around to A32, the Spitfire, and later, a P-38 chasing me the whole way.  A32's AAA drove them off and I landed at A32.

This may be routine for some of you guys, but its a new thing for me.

Congrats Karnak.  It's a great feeling that doesn't really diminish with successive kills.  It always thrilling to land a kill.

For me landing after a mission is half the fun.  Many times you are being pursued with little or no ammo left and often times low fuel as well.  Some of my most memorable fights have been running along the deck at 400 mph in a p51 with 100 rds of ammo left.  (You have got to be REAL careful about when to use those bullets to get yourself home. )  The best feeling you can get in this game is to see a friendly field just ahead of you when you are on fumes being pursued by a 109 who REALLY wants to kill you.

I try pretty hard to make sure I'm not being followed during my RTBs, but it's those few times you manage to evade a pursuing fighter and land that really makes your day.    Or better yet, managing to turn the tables on an enemy at the last second and see your very last .50 caliber shell take off his rudder.

If I remember right Karnak had some difficulties with his hardware...
Guess those are gone now

So you liked that G-10 ?

Have fun up there and do not shoot my 190/109

Congrats,

Sounds like a good run. It's a good feeling to get a successful sortie and bring your bird home in one piece.

WTG Karnak!

Personally, I don't count any sortie of mine a success unless I bring my bird home safe. It's a personal goal of mine to return to base after each sortie.

Great Job!!

I find it difficult to return to the base.  Always end up in trouble somehow!

I don't often get multiples, but believe I landed my first four the other day.

I know when the beta first started I got a 3 in a Pony, I was so happy that I wrote about it.  I still love the canyons of the first beta terrain.  I know they have em about A1, but they aren't the same.

I wish we would all get in a nice low furball in Spit Vs and Zekes in them thar hills about A1.  Set a ceiling of 3000 Ft AGL.
