So, there you are at 22000 feet in your Lancaster..
« on: October 21, 2002, 06:24:56 PM »
..thinking about the time you've just spent climbing out to Knights HQ, thinking about the fighter that you managed to shoot down enroute...you calibrate your run, you drop your bomb load direct on HQ...BOOM! out go the lights....now your egressing and barely 5 min. have passed, you check strategy on the map, highlite Knights, and see that you've just spent 1 hour on your run, only to see the strat read 100% for Knight radar....

Here's why :)

Strat targets should not be able to be supplied by forward bases.

Cities and factories build forward based (e.g. airfields, vehicle fields and ports), not the other way around.  The fact that this increadibly gamey feature remains goes a long, long ways towards making level bombers useless.

You didn't see London being supplied from Biggin Hill or Sweinfurt from a local airfield.  It makes no sense.  The sheer ammount of supplies needed to rebuild a city or factory precludes the ability to resupply them with halftracks and C-47s.

Resupplyable airfields, vehicle bases and ports are a great gameplay addition.  Resupplyable strategic assets are a terrible gameplay addition.

Welllllll .............. hate to speak against you Rip but thats the reason why Goon supply drops to rebuild structures are ruining part of the game IMHO.  No denying thats what you should do as strat stands - I jus don't think Goons should be able to do it......

Well since having no radar ruins the game for a great many MORE players than the single bomber guy who destroyed it, I think it's only fair to be able to fix it.   It's bad enough that Dar can be destroyed in the first place!

The knights have so many dweebs on line they can afford a dozen to sit in the hq in goons. No news there.

if you want to hold dar down, take a field near the HQ.

Don't expect a precision drop, and a two hour sortie to mean you should be able to keep thier radar down for just as long.

we ran a few raid with fighters following up behind the bombers.

It was a turkey shoot. Goons were everywhere.

But karnaks right this is arse backwards.

We need raw material facilities and town(s) surrounding hq. The hq should need raw materials and man power to rebuild.

Depending on how muck of the raw material structures are down, and how much of the towns surrounding hq are down should determin rebuild times.

As much as I hate radar being down this is one of the reasons the bombers focus on the the airfields. They lack the instant satisfaction of impacting the rest of us. strat can work but its too involve for main play. Targeting the barracks facilities, targeting the barracks at the fields closest to hq, targeting the city, and then hq is the only way to keep hq down for any considerable time. Follow the hq raid up with fighters waiting to pounce on any c47s that try toget in.

You figure with 500 guys online and alot calling for organization a few of these raids would pop up. But alot of guys cant hit anything in bombers and its much easy to roll up on 1 af at a time with suicide mass raids then get all wrapped up is a prolonged strat war that doesnt have any real odds of suceeding.

Since when was whole country's radar dependable of one lone building?
Since when did ships lose their radars when their HQ was leveled?

Killing a dar by bombing one building is more gamey than helping to put it operative with C-47s.

Shall I punt the old threads prior to resupply version which whined about the lack of ability to restore the HQ?...you know the ones where everyone logs out after HQ is down? ;)

Can't have it both ways! :)

Maybe HQ should be a relay station:
When its operative you'll see what is going on in every corner of the map but when its destroyed you'll see dar only from most closest bases.

maybe we should have a restriction on how many supplies are available? and if the factories that produce these supplies are down, then eventually there will be no chance of resupplying the HQ...

just an idea.

for the vast majority of MA players that have only and hour or two to play at a time...

Having no radar simply takes the fun out of the game.

For an outnumbered country...

having no radar because a huge country with lame'os to burn just did some "missun"..... seems hokey and unfun and unfair.
