But for ONCE we can play on a side that WINS every now and then?  The telethon is over, I'm sick of Jerry's Kids  :)

and.........help the ..........SAVE THE ROOKS FOUNDATION........

hey guys im all for evening up the numbers  its the only thing to make it fun for everyone to play!

I myself have always been a rook and since beta days it seems the rooks have (most times) the least numbers (but not always)

One things for sure iwe ROOKS tend to fly in a "TAGET RICH ENVIROMENT" but as well our 6's tend to be full of red icons.

Either way to every and all WELCOME TO THE ROOKS!

When Knights were the red-headed stepchild of AH, I whined in a thread about numbers, basically I was told to STFU.

Many squadrons including my newly formed VMF-323 just went on a recruiting drive, eventually the knights built up numbers. SOunds like Rook squads are alittle too lazy to do that...they want AH Welfare?

Ripsnort is absolutely right. Every country goes through down turns. For a while the Knights were the ones with low numbers. Then there was a phase where the Bishops had low numbers during peak US hours. Now the Rooks are in that hole.

Only thing that can be done is for the Rooks to take a good hard look at themselves and figure out what has caused the drop in numbers and then for several Rook squads work toward rectifying the problems, rebuilding numbers and stop the hostility and behavior that is making not fun to fly Rooks and driving people away.

First off people got to realize this is a voluntary hobby that most of us play to relieve stress. Anything that makes it unfun will cause people to leave. Right now the general culture is making it unfun for many people. Rooks have to realize is that if you ask other pilots or Rooks squads to help they will if they can. If you demand that they do something or try to order them to do something more likely than not you will put their hackles up and they won't. Even if somebody does something stupid if you berate them about it and rant about it all you will do is piss them off.

It all comes down to the difference of asking for help to accomplish something and trying to order non squad mates about.

Also the poor treatment of new players and people that come over from other countries needs to stop. For somebody to come over from the Knights and recieve FLAK about being a spy or open hostility when they decided to fly Rooks and we are outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1 is silly and has caused more than a few to switch countries back as soon as they can because of the poor treatment. Yes, spying could happen but think things through first even if they are spying its one less pilot for the other side. Second what the heck are they spying about .. when we are outnumbered as much as we have been spying really doesn't matter.

So in my opinion its a cultural thing that needs to be fixed and Rooks need to start working more together again (more than once every 3 weeks in an RJO event).

Several of the Rooks squads are talking about trying to fix things and deal with issues.

As for squads coming over .. sure come on over if you want. And please ignore any of the monkeys that give you a hard time, most of us appreciate it. But the wheel will turn and we will work our way of of this situation just like Ripsnort did for the Knights. Just takes time ...

Good post Ghstdncr!  Here is one example of "helping" your country...a newbie logs in..says "How do I fly?"  Don't be a smart donut and say "RTFM" or "download the readme"...help the guy out!  Jump in there and lend a hand to your fellow countryman, after all, HE may be the guy that recruits 30 over to rookland for you someday once the "crack" has taken hold of his life! :)

Take your charity and shove it up your .

I'll meet any number of you in the air at the same time (and die ingloriously no doubt), but I'll be damned if I want whiny, condecending handouts.  If I decide that I just can't hack it flying Rook anymore I'll change to Knits or Bish.

If you want to fly Rook for awhile and have some fun blasting Knits and Bishes, that's great and you're more than welcome.  That's the attitude we like.

But if you come over to Rooks with the condecending attitude that you're "saving" us poor Rooks and you're some sort of hero for it, well, don't bother switching sides.  We'd much rather have you as targets.

Agreed Ripsnort. I have seen "newbies" treated very shabily lately. I have seen people who have switched from other countries spend more time getting hounded verbally by a small minority of Rook Monkeys screaming and yelling and throwing bananas than dodging enemy bullets.

And truthfully when a person says "Help A40 is under heavy attack we are about to fall .. help" instead of just ignoring them or try to lecture them about strategy simply answering the person and saying "my squad is stretched thin and I don't have anyone to send to you .. or let me see if I can scrounge up some guys .. or all I can spare is 2 pilots" does wonders. The courtesy if acknowledging their call for help, even if you can't help, does wonders and makes them feel like they are part of a country. Instead of just howling into the wind by themselves.

As I said its a cultural thing that needs to be addresses and several of the Rook squads are talking about it now. But the problem stems not from the majority from Rooks but a very vocal minority that just need to realize that hey if you make it unpleasant to play on your side I won't. That is why we have lost many independents and others imho.

Don't know why anyone would want to switch to rooks. They're the most fun to fight. When you're dogfighting a rook, you got a fight on your hands.

Our usual plan goes something like this....

- Tahgut, go over to (fill in field name) shoot red things till you die.

- (grunt) bombah too?

- Yes you can bomb them too

- (happy grunt)

Works for me. :)

Tahgut, Tahgut, Tahgut you been slamming dirt again. You know the plan actually goes like this:

    - Tahgut, go over to (fill in field name) and act as bait.

    - (grunt) why me bait?

    - Because you smell like fish.

    - (happy grunt)  Me bait, me bait, me bait.

    - Okay everyone else shoot down the Knights/Bishops that Tahgut attracts.

Karnak,

Your right anyone who comes over needs to show respect to the Rooks just like the Rooks need to show respect to them. If somebody comes over with an attitude that he is here to save the poor besodden Rooks and starts running his mouth off to such effect .. better to stay on your side and save us all the irritation.

And vice a versa if somebody comes over and without an attitude they should be treated with respected instead of being berated, accused or shown hostility. If not then they will switch back to their old countries the soonest time that they can.

All I can promise is that Rooks, numbers low or high, people/squads switching or not, will do our best to give you one hell of a fight and make you pay for every inch of ground you try to take.

Just call us the AH Spartans and consider this Thermopylie.

My practice is simple. If I am available to go to A40, I take a look from the tower. If the VH is up, or the field is not being actively vulched, I'll pitch in. However, it is fruitless to do anything bcause the above exists, I try to organize a counter attack to take it back, or at least come in from another field to complicate the enemy effort as much as possible.

Unfortunately, with our low numbers, most players are actively engaged when the call for help comes, making it that much more difficult to provide assistance. It sure would be nice to have enough manpower to have a rotating designated reserve squadron for just such emergencies. When not needed for combat, they could run goons for the other squads, or the like.
