The Rooks have 48489 kills and have been killed 44460 times against the Bishops.

The Rooks have 55351 kills and have been killed 50892 times against the Knights.

The Bishops have 73602 kills and have been killed 79080 times against the Knights.

well <> for the idea. THis may be a bit long... but for anyone interested in coming to Rooks here is some thoughts....

background inf: our squad went rooks back in April after being knits from November 2001. (thats when the squad started). we left knits because of a similar situation that made the 81st leave rooks. poor judgement by others in the country makes you rather mad.

i have to say we beleive we have a home now!

we sometimes get upset at some of the actions of the fellow countrymen, but generally they are very respectible guys.

yes we have talked about things that piss us off and after discussion we realized the Rooks are the best country. (it helps that our CO and i both live in Milwaukee so we can call each other any time we want... and actually talk Daily about tactics and plans for our squad)

back to why we switched...
a short example is something we've watched all sides and how they react.

on Mindanao the country in the west has it made mostly. but occasionally an NOE raid takes A12 or A21. the last night we were Knights A12 got taken by an infamous AK raid. we immedately augered our planes and went to try and get A12 back because of how dangerous it it to lose that base.

well the knights responded with maybe 15 planes in all. it was a hopeless fight.

now the rooks were in this same situation not 2 weeks later and the mass of fellow countrymen was incredible. (we had switched by then). the base was taken back in under 15 min.

i have wactched this happen to the bish.. and they were about the same as the rooks.

Back to my point...(LOL MAJOR rambling)

the rooks seem to have a good understanding of what teamwork can do, and when you need to band together.

i can't count how many times we have defended bases and the rooks ask if we need help... then respond if we do.

unfortunately the #'s have been so bad as of late that defence is all we do.

I know there are 3-4 nights a MONTH that the rooks #'s are even or in an advantage and it ALWAYS goes great!

whenever #'s are even we seem to have the advantage in bases or at least get to that point. not to Flame other countries or pilots but i truly believe the rooks have the best sticks in the game. against equal odds we will win! (Smiley for impact!)

The Loss of the 81st was big. i remember flying with a few of them and will miss the the action and quality of the fights.

it all goes back to the #'s issue. there are countless times i have flown with 5-6 pilots and meet up with 6-7 enemies. 90% + of the time i have watched more of the enemy go home than we do. thats what its all about, send more enemies home than friendlies and you will win.

that is my humble observations on the Rooks as a country... i have been a knight and thankfully never a bish (LOL) so take this how you want. Fly rooks and we will be happy to fly with you.

I don't really understand how people get so worked up about loyalty to an imaginary country named after a chess piece. Loyalty to squadmates and friends is different however. I stay Rooks because my squad is Rooks at the moment. If the CO decides we should move then I'll go along.

Being the underdog country can be a drag but sometimes you can make it fun. Last night the Rooks were being pounded by both Bish and Knits (130 : 40 approx numbers) so I went goon hunting. It was great fun tearing along on the deck in a 190D9 underneath a stream of knit fighters going from A5 to A11 (ndisles map). I killed 5 goons, got two fighter kills and rtb'd safely (although missing my rudder).

It was fantastic fun, I must have spent about 15 minutes underneath the fighter stream, the goons I killed must have been really cheesed off, seeing they had so many little friends around! At one point I had about 6 or 7 fighters closing on me (thanks to some timely help from camo and FTER I got away though). Sometimes being badly outnumbered can make for some fun sorties. Come Rook, if you can stand the ganging it can be fun.

Sure I get shot down more when numbers are so uneven but I wouldn't trade it for nothing. I love having so many targets to shoot at, but sometimes it's just darn hard to decide just which target to shoot down

I am a rook and will stay one no matter what the numbers are. Don't need anyone's charity or pitty, just keep bringing on those targets is all I ask.

Myself and several (10+) sqaudies went rook tonight. We flew mainly w/our brethern/friends in the Nazgul and had a blast!
I doubt if we'll see my sqaud actualy MOVE to the Rooks but I can see us "visiting" now and then.

I would suggest others try this. The Rooks treated us well and acted w/pure class. Anyway all the guys I flew with.

hey I had fun about 12 hours ago when it was still the NDIsles Map. Rooks were outnumbers 3:3:1 in the beginning, and we were down to four or five bases, Bishops had A17 and Knights had A11. We even lost P14 to Knights but managed to cling on to C13 and take P14 back. (Of course, what helped this situation was that the Bishops and Knights were up at each others' throats for trying to get the reset and well... you know what happens...)

After a long fought battle, we managed to take back A11 and quickly took back A17. We then worked on A18, A19, and P21. Lucky for us, we found C20 and sunk it right after we took P21.

Bishops launched a counterstrike on A12 from A7 while some Knights attacked A11 from A5. We fought those off and worked on A7. Some of us took A10 from C13 and A9. By the time A7 fell to our rightful hands, we had taken V3, A4, and A5 as well.

By the time I logged, we captured A8 for about 15 bases in all and Knights were the underdogs.

All throughout the evening, Rooks had the lowest number of players, although at some points, Knights and Rooks were about even.

It seems the Bishops got the reset, but I had lots of fun doing it. Torpedoing C20 using the Ju88 was extremely gratifying.

This, I think, can only be done if Rooks were together during the course of the evening.

Just a story from my side, which I thought might be of relevance to the topic.

Frodo (a rook pilot extraordinaire) and I had a conversation about the low Rook numbers two nights ago and we both agreed that one of the problems is that it's nearly impossible for a newbie to survive and learn anything in the environment that Rookland finds itself in day after day.

They are just 'meat' for the Bish and Knits. They run for the cover of the other countries were they can get lost in the numbers and have time to pick up the skills necessary to survive in the Main Arena.

As for a comment I read above about new pilots being treated shabbily in Rookland, I have not seen, nor heard of a new pilot being turned away when a 'newbie' question is asked. Since most questions tend to come through Channel 1 they get the best advise from all countries, and not just rooks. There are a few rooks that are probably only 12 to 14 years old (or at least sound like it on Vox!) and they are treated with the same respect as a more seasoned (read ‘old’) pilot. If it has happened, it has been an isolated case.

Maybe if all of us in Rookland were to pick up on a new guy sooner, invite them into our squad, and mentor them, we might find our 'country' growing again.

And as for all of the pissing and moaning that comes from a certain type of online pilot that see things only in ‘strat’ terms, my only comment is that there is only offense and defense. The is no neutral ground. And how you act and fly is based upon that. We in Rookland find ourselves more on the defense than offense and that changes the complexion of our 'strat' The good 'strat' pilot is the one who can do more with less. It's easy to talk 'strat' when you have a numerical advantage. Try doing it with only a few, because a few pilots are all that you may get in the current Rook environment. My squad, The Original Flying Tigers routinely takes fields with no more than 3 to 4 pilots (and one of them is in the Goon!)

In summation, come to Rookland, endure, and become a better online pilot for it.

When you have a three country system,the two numerically superior countries will pick on the weaker country.It's human nature.The quest for victory and defeating your opponent is a strong one,and getting there fustest with the mostest,is highly desireable.
I've flown most of the online sims for a lotta years,and they all suffered from this problem.Nobody likes getting thier arse whipped all the time,and some of the less tolerant,will slide over to the stronger sides,so they can participate in the ganging.
I thought WB's more tolerant attitude about side changing was admirable,as if the #'ers were not fair,a few good hearted souls,would switch sides.I didn't care for the guys that flew Axis rides early war,then allied, when they would gain a advantage.
I read somewhere that a fighter pilot needs to be offensive minded,are he's lost.Being a Rook in AH,you had better be offensive minded in a defensive way.
By the way,my take on the sims I've flown..best over all AH..best crowd AW..best skilled pilots WB's.

I think that the Bish and Knits need to recruit more guys to make it fair for them

xBAT, I enjoyed the company of "The Flying Circus" and I know that the rest of my squad enjoyed it more.

Now, I have beat my head on the brick wall of "lack of numbers".
I will still offer this reply "It's what you do with those numbers that makes or breaks you". I have read whines on the country channel and those whiners are 1 of 4-9 planes chasing a lone con for that "KILL". You guys wonder?

As for strat players. I won't debate it, my squad does it, I do it. I won't get into a pissing contest with anyone over this. We have thwarted many Bishop and Knight attacks by hitting fuel and ammo, it isn't worth the time and effort to justify it. Usually when you get 100 people from all over, um, NOONE does the exact same thing. It's human nature. Some hit strat, some don't, big deal.

I fly Rook ALSO because my squad is Rook. I give help when needed and when asked. I was ignored around the weekend and left out of protest and flew with the "Flying Circus". Certain Rooks have an arrogance problem. Planning useless missions to attack bases that have no tactical importance. I sat back for so long (5 months) and said nothing. Now when the one time I choose to oppose (nicely mind you) I get flak for it. The next day the "arrogant ones" start where they left the night before. Their thick skulls didn't realize that THEY were pissed, not I.

The moral of the story? I don't know Rooks, tell me. As for the side switching I did. JB, I've already talked to you about it and will NOT discuss it with anyone else , except squad and you. It was a much needed 1 hour break from immaturity.

Our squad is tight and like every relationship in life has it's peaks and valleys. NAZGUL you have taken brotherhood and friendship to a very high level. I owe 99% of my ability to you guys. You have put up with smart bellybutton comments and wisecracks for over 7 months now. You have taught me more than I have given in return. In addition, we don't die, we're already dead.

I agree the chess piece dedication is a little too much. How many Rooks in squads would ACTUALLY stay Rook if their CO left. Um, hmm..let me think about that one. NOT ONE. It isn't about the chess piece, it is about the people inside of the country.

I don't know of anything else to say than besides my squad: Sea Serpents, FTSeeker, FTPiper (and the rest of the Flying Tigers), OddCAF, GrimmCAF, JesterCAF (and the rest of the Cactus Air Force), Manx, Luarth, Sekiji, WideWing, KKEN, Mn7Duct, Mn7McQ (and the rest of the Magnificent Seven), JB42, JB73, TG12, Flaps737, MANDOBLE, Midnight Target, Tahgut, Japanx and the many more who have shown me and others in the Rook country that teamwork is the only way to fight. We shouldn't fight each other, but some like too I guess

Rooks realize this about me. I am blunt. I tell it like it is. I don't hold back. Some don't like me in Rookland, while others hopefully tolerate me. I back ANY of you guys up in the air (6's, clearing cons, etc). I just hope you all so the same in the future and to ALL of your countrymen. This is a team effort, not a ME effort.

I've been up since 1pm yesterday.

The rooks are the most fun to fight... The bish are the worst and... the least fun... I believe that the bish can be divided into 2 equal groups... suicide building battlers who think taking a field is important and the timid high alt opportunists. The two groups compliment each other with the building battlers suiciding into the field and the timid alt weines coming in on the second (or fifth) wave when it is "safe" in fast planes.

neither group is fun to fight and both are easy to kill but you spend a lot of time doing nothing. It is best to simply avoid bish wussies.

You told us Rooks that 'we had no balls". When I teased you about it you got all pissy. (I think you mentioned something about squelching some folks? Was I one of them?)

You stated that "Certain Rooks have an arrogance problem". Ok, but are you going to tell me, and other Rooklanders, that there are NO arrogant pilots within the Bishop community? How about the Knights? Not one overly confident individual there at all?

Probably the worst that you can say about Rooks is that we tend to be a rather independent lot.

Karaya2, your efforts within Rookland has always been appreciated. I apologize if my teasing added to your frustration and unhappiness.
