No UDP, No Vox

Original message posted here deleted.  Connection info is too useful to delete the thread though.  Anybody know if it can be renamed too?  Apology sent to Skuzzy and later in this post.

Unfortunately, much of the problem may be well out of their hands.  When almost everyone else is getting good pings, its very hard for HT to fix your issue.

I would suggest trying a new ISP or two and see if its any better, if it is, contact your ISP to correct any local routing issues.

Nacho,

I figure email is as good as or better that a call.  Especially when I send Ping Plotter graphs showing no problems.  In most professional organizations, email is considered a valid form of communication.

Ozark,

That I can do.  P3 450 Mhz, Win  98.  Use a 56k connection.  Worked fine from the time I created my account with HTC (about 9 months ago I'm guessing) until about September 15th, then poof, no UDP connections, no vox.  Ping Plotter shows no connection problems.

I haven't changed anything on my system or changed my ISP (as much as I am tempted to).  I do not have a firewall and turn my virus protection off when playing.

Thanks.

It sounds like an issue with your ISP. (i.e. not HTC's fault)

Losing UDP -and- vox seems to imply that there are no incoming connections.

Are you able to host h2h games?

I had a similar problem with warbirds, which is why I am here now.  :)   I had an 80ms ping with no packet loss to warbirds, but had consistent warping bad enough to make me an impossible target.  Part of the problem is that isp's have an independent server to handle ping tests.  This gives you an inaccurate, but not useless ping test.  I talked to warbirds, my isp, and ATT who owned the trunk that my isp was using.  Nobody could solve the problem.  I second the advice of trying a different isp.

Innominate,

I was able to host an H2H, and did not lose UDP there.  Don't know if I had vox there since I was the only one there.

Innominate,

I can host an H2H event without losing UDP, but don't know about vox since I was the only one there.

Actually I lose  all sound (VOX too) all the time. I have to tab out of AH and back in to recover it. Strange, and gets aggravating in a dogfight.

Hmmm.. just my unsolicited two cents, but I think you owe the community a HUGE thank you for responding to your snively, whiney, childish outburst with nothing but genuine supportive suggestions and input.  IMHO... this string speaks loudly of two things.. your general immaturity, and the community's over all integrity.  I certainly hope your problem comes to some resolution, but I would suggest you could simply have posted the problem and asked for the support and suggestions you so undeservedly received rather than stomping up and down and screaming about what bad, bad people those folks at HTC are.  And regarding your complaint of poor customer service, it seems you have received responses, but you simply aren't satisfied that they can't (not won't.... big difference) answer your question satisfactorily.  Call this a flame if you will, but it is simply intended as a reminder that some times "fixing the blame" becomes more important than fixing the problem, with predictable results.  As I already said, I genuinely hope you figure out a fix to your problem.  Good luck.

I also had a great connection with HTC & then all off a sudden couldnt hold UDP either, I discovered a defective server withinn My ISP's network. the server was sending EVERYTHING it recieved back to sender. After 3 weeks of no resolve I dropped earthlink & signed up SBC global, all is well now.

Can I just point one tiny little thing out?

He's now getting support from the community, not HTC.  So how does helping this guy improve his view of user support from HTC?

Personally, for every problem I've ever had with this game, I call them.  Since I started (tour 1) I've had to call HTC 3 times for support, once I spoke to HT himself who made suggestions.....didnt fix the problem but gave me an idea for a workaround, second time I spoke to Matt.....who again, didnt fix the problem but gave me an idea that did, third time I spoke to Skuzzy.......who did fix the problem, but then that one wasn't much of a problem.

Now from my personal experience, HTCs user support is bleedin' great!  But that's cos I call em direct......never could be arsed to wait for an email reply.

Gloves, my advice is call em......ya get way better support over the phone.

In fact, name one company who gives really great tech support via email?  I cant.

Had a mate of mine who shall remain nameless, lost all his j/s views and his 8 way hat became a 4 way hat......waaaaay back when one of the updates came out (1.08 I think).  Idiot didnt do anything for over a year, just stayed out of AH cos the views were porked for him.....finally gets around to calling HTC and it's sorted in10 minutes.  Doh!

P.S.  correction: 4 times.  One was to Yankee and was was about con reg......which she confirmed in double quick time and lil ol' Yankee has real nice telephone manner too :D.

Try this, create a new Dial up connection using your modem, for this connection, you go in under advanced and change modem settings (might have to do some clikcing around to find the modem, it is done when you create a new Dial Up connection). Once modem is accessed, lower the Baud rate to 19,200, remove compression and remove error controlling.

Hopefully it will fix it.
