HT or anyone else,

what materials do you recommend to get prior to actually signing up for flight instruction. Monetarily I dont have what it takes due to an unexpected home repair, but will this spring and would like to get a jump on the instruction.

HiTech....

Your mailbox will never be the same

Constant AOPA mailings, Sportings Pilot Shop catalogs....you name it.

So go on over to http://www.flightsuits.com and treat yourself....get a nice flight suit, matching helmet, etc and make em think you are taking off into MiG Alley the next time you are at the airport :)

Congrats!  You'll find you learn more in the 20 hours AFTER you obtained the Private Pilot License than all the training before!  Enjoy and welcome to the club!
