Couple of questions...
« on: November 02, 2002, 11:58:46 AM »
Hello all, this is my first post here and I'm a Aces High noob. So be patient with my questions please.

1. To capture a field I must destroy the town and send a troops there, correct? If so, how do I send troops? How do I put troops on a plane?

2. How do I know which plane is better than the other? Any tips on which plane I should fly? What is one of the best bombers or fighter planes...

I'll post more questions later once I have these answered.

Thanks.

~Kirby~

Whenever I am in the runway, and start moving, I can't control my plane, and it starts to move away from the runway to the right direction. I calibrate my joystick and it still happen, I can't controll my plane in the ground, so I have to hope not to hit a hangar when I take off.

Use a C47 or an M3 to bring troops to a destroyed town.  there is a green mound in the town which is the map room. Hit O to open door and let the troops out with your secondary weapon key.  All buildings in the town must be destroyed in order to capture it.

Easiest thing to do is land your C47 at the town and let them get out, however, if you want them to drop while still flying, you have to be 800 ft. above ground level for them to safely open chutes and drop.  You can select troops by selecting the M3/C47 in the hanger and selecting the troops as ordinance.  (Same way as picking bombs and stuff.)

What plane is better than others is dependant on your flying style.  Normally, newbie's tend to fly spit IX's and Nik2's for awhile, as they have a good combination of turn-rate, speed, climb, and guns.  Once you get familiar with those, then move onto something a little more difficult, and less forgiving in stalls.

As far as bomber's go, same thing, Lanc carries best payload, but is weak, B17's carry a smaller payload, but better guns and armor.

Welcome to AH!

go into setup click on "Flight" and select auto takeoff.  What your encountering is torque, which rollse your plane in a direction, and you must counter with rudder, or as above, use auto takeoff.

1) Yes u need to kill the city 1st.  To capture the field you need to send load troops onto a C47 plane.

2) The better kind of fighter is what kind of fighting you would like to do.  You would take one of the Spitfires that are available for turnfighting, or if you would like to be more careful and not attack quickly, u can try a La7, which is one of the fastest planes that is not perked, and under 15k.

3)  If you like you can enable Auto Liftoff from the runway by going to  ...  Take your clipboard out, hit Setup, then go to Flight and Enable the "Auto Takeoff".

If u dont want to do that you can use your rudder on your joystick, if u dont have a joystick you can use A and D buttons for rudder left and right.

Hope it helps.

Question 1 is easy.  You kill the town, and then get someone to bring in a C-47 "goon" with troops (or "drunks").  This is one of the loadouts (selectable in the hanger) for the C-47.  you can also use a ground vehicle (M-3) if there is a spawn point from a nearby base that is close to the target.

Question 2 is ENTIRELY subject to opinion.

A lot of people will say "its not the plane, it's the pilot" meaning the better pilot will win no matter what plane he is in.   This is actually not entirely wrong.  The better pilot will use the strengths of his plane against whatever weaknesses your plane has.  If your plane turns great, but climbs worse than his, he will fight a vertical fight.

Next, if both pilots are equal, which is the best plane.  Welll,. . . how do you like to fight?  Do you like to turn and burn (dogfight) or do you like to zip through the fight at mach 2, cherry picking the unwary?    Two completely different planes are "best" for these two tasks (and you won't get a consensus on what those two planes are either.  :-)

Generally, the P-51 is FAST, and sorta manouverable.

The N1K2 (niki) is VERY manouverable, accelerates well, but has a lower top speed.

The spit is faster than the N1K2, but not as manouverable.

The La-7 is hell on wheels.   Fast, manouverable and accelerates well.  It has a very low ammo loadout, but kills very well with it's 3 cannon.

The P-38 is the easiest plane to learn in, but it does nothing 'the best.'  It's pretty good at everything.

The FW-190 is the king of the big guns.  If you hit something, it dies.  (2-20mm, 2-30mm cannons, 2 13mm MG's)

The Typhoon and F4u-c have 4 20mm Hizookas.  (Hispano 20mm)  This is probably the best singe weapon in AH.  High muzzel velocity, great hitting power, decent ammo load.

Finally, we look at "perk" planes.  As you kill people, you get perk points based on the "value" of your plane divided by the "value" of their plane.  If you fly a high value plane (meaning not as 'good' as the others) and you shoot down a low value plane (meaning a plane that is better than yours) you get more points.

for example, a P-51 has an 'enemy value' of 10.  A FW-190 A8 has an 'enemy value' of 35.  So if the FW shoots down the P-51, the FW driver gets 3.5 perks.  If the P51 shoots down the FW, he gets about .33 points.

When you get these perk points, you can then 'purchase' things like the ME-262 (german jet) or Tempest or Spit-14.  These are planes that would 'unbalance' the arean if they were free.  No one would fly anything else, and it would not be as much fun.

Ouch out.

The canonical way to destroy the town.

1.) Fly in with a ME-110G2 loaded up with 2x500kg and 4x50kg bombs.

2.) Dive vertically down over the city.

3.) Release all bombs.

4.) Pull out of dive and reverse.

5.) If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, shoot it anyway.

For the torque on take off consider buying some rudder pedals.  I used auto take off for the longest time, but then decided for realism I should learn how to take off.  I bought CH pro pedals as the twisty thing on my joystick just wouldn't cut it.  Plus in flight, the twisty tended to invoke rudder when I didn't want it.

If you like the game and stick with it, rudder pedals are definitely the way to go IMHO.

you cant save your game, its not like il2 or anything, thres no campaigns, offline is mostly used of rpractice like carrier landing before someone plays in a map with all carriers, everyone plays in H2H or the Main arena ("MA") as we call it, and personly its ALOT more fun to paly people than shoot some drones that dont shoot back, so practice offline and play against other people online, E-mail me if you want some help im open for training i have trained alot of good fighter pilots so e-mail me if you want some help and we can setup a time to fly in H2H in my arena...

my e-mail is matt1221b@hotmail.com and ill c u if you want some help

later and welcome to AH
