.cfg files for planes....
« on: November 04, 2002, 06:46:33 PM »
i know this should be in "Gameplay / Feedback" but i wanted to get the most response...

would it be nice if the .cfg files for the planes would allow us to set the fuel burn order for certain planes.... IE:

c205.cfg

[FuelOrder]
A-LW/RW
A-Aux
A-Main

that would drain wings first instead of the Aux tank

FW190d-9.cfg

[FuelOrder]
A-Aux
A-Aft
A-Fwd

that would drain the aux before the fwd

this would be allowed for each plane so we could customize it as we wanted

i dont know if this would be a total re-write of the game code or a simple thing but i thought it would be useful and alot of players would appreciate the ability to do this.

what do you all think?

The Fuel Burn Order.

You can do this manually already.
Use Shift  F to select the tank U wish to draw fuel from, Just like the tank switchs u find in many aircraft.
But if U leave the fuel selector on A-xxx it is just like putting the Fuel selector in real aircraft to "All" or "both"..

tinker .. i know that .. problem is that with manual drain you sometimes get in a fight and run out of fuel in the middle.

+ the 190's you cant see the fuel gauge without adjusting your head position.

++ the 190 real life fuel burn is the order: ext, aft, fwd ... here it's modeled ext, fwd, aft

like i posted i think there is a # of players who might like to be able to do this ..... but i guess not :(

I predict a great rending and gnashing of teeth by the realism monkeys.

That said... I think it's a cool idea.

I was actually thinking the same thing the other day when I was trying to burn off the fuel in mywings first in the C.205 like everyone reccomeded.

Love the idea, although the default 190 fuel tank sequence should be changed anyways.

I'd like a bit more detail in the cfg files though, I'd like the ability to choose percentages to drain to before switching tanks. For example, the P51 continuously switches back and forth at set intervals between L and R tanks.

CFG files for Aircraft.

U Gents seem to want the ability to AUTOMATE the whole process.
The aircraft of this era required a Thinking Pilot to fly the plane.

Why Don't we take it to the limit of Automation like some games do.. Then All we do is sit back and drink and tell lies while the computer automaticly does every thing else.

Ur thinking is 60 years ahead. That kind of selections would be appropriate when U start programming `Predators" to do your missions for U, or mayby Advance F -22's or F-16 C  etc..

Let us not try to turn this game into a  total auto game. Let the Pilots have something to do other than eat Bananas......
:D :)

tinker .. like i said earlier the 190 drain was...

that WAS an automated process. a very complicated 1 too. the fuel would be constantly pushed into the fwd tank from the aft and ext. the way it worked was extra fuel was sent to the engine and the overflow went back to the fwd tank.

also if 1 tank got hit it would automatically drain that tank first to save as much fuel than it would seal it so no other fuel got sent to it.

basically it was the most advanced fuel sequence of the time... years ahead of its time actually.

anyway

It's funny all you guys argiung about an automated process being unrealistic.  AH CURRENTLY RUNS AUTOMATED GAS TANK SELECTION!!!  So, you are unknowingly commiting a Straw man fallacy.  The argument here is to allow customizability into a process that already exists.  Not whether or not that process should exist at all.  Find your own thread to whine in basically.
