I don't really care about other countries.   I don't want them to have nukes or weapons of mass destruction and since we are big enough.......  I say take em away from who we can.   They are all welcome to have any firearm they wish so far as I am concerned tho.

I guess I still don't see what the flap is. If you're safely on the other side of the Atlantic, have laws that ban weapons to your citizens, and are in no way threatened by a country thousands of miles away that does allow its citizens the right to bear arms... how does it impact you? Not that I care if you are against them, but I cannot understand the European angst over American citizens owning guns.

Now if you blow us too much crap about it, we may just crate up a bunch of our squirrels and ship them over. That ought to hold your attention for a while. :D

America’s constitutional right to free speech is an anachronism dating back to the 18th century. In modern times, it is an unmitigated disaster which has given rise to many defending the rights of privately owned guns and an alarming homicide rate, with a tally of more than 300,000 firearms related homicides in the past 25 years. While no law can be 100% effective, Britain has no “gun culture”, and much stricter societal controls which have contained the annual tally of gun related homicides to a double digit value - fewer than one fiftieth of the American gun-related homicide rate per 100,000 population.

(PS - Is it true that Great Britain banned CNBC's weekly broadcast of "WSJ Editorial Board"?)

Or is this transatlantic jealousy just some form of mass noodle envy?

A BUNCH os squirrels?? All it took was one to drive the entire English population into bomb shelters! Right now the entire supply of Air Rifles in England have been sold to Brits desperate to protect themselves against this onslaught of nature. Imagine what would happen if we shipped over some REALLY DANGEROUS small mammals like an Opposum or a Racoon- or, God forbid. an Armadillo- on an unarmed and defenseless English population.

Beat1e reminds me of an old song by Donovan about whose responsibility it is to kill snakes- ie, the School, ie the Government- but when you'll get a little older you'll find you have to kill them yourself Beat1e. I hope your air rifle is up to the task.

Now now chin up old boy, there is always a bright side- if France were plauged by a miscreant squirrel they would have surrendered. Toodle-Pip Beat1e. :D

LOL!!! See what I mean, Lazs? Tis sounds like a US newspaper report. :D I have no bomb shelter for the same reason I have no gun!  No threat these days. As for the snakes, we have only one type of poisonous snake here - the adder, also known as the viper. I've never seen one in my life - not even a dead one. If I need help with snakes, I'll ask Spook. Australia has the TEN most poisonous snakes in the world. The most dangerous one is actually the second most poisonous - the Brown snake. Bad tempered MF, and dangerous because it likes to live where people live, and might be found hiding in the undergrowth on in a suburban garden.  But most snakes will leave us alone.

But can you imagine the citizenry running amok, hands waving over their heads, screaming "The terror squirrels are here! The terror squirrels are here!" as if the Viking hordes had returned?

Damn. Only one air rifle to share. Hope they can get the permit papers filed fast enough...

the smaller the noodle the more likely the owner is to talk about guns and noodle's in the same sentence.   It just makes em feel less lonely.

Some of the most heavily armed people in the U.S. (notice I didn't call them citizens) are members of Black inner-city gangs.

They are not "under-equipped" in any sense of the word.  I wouldn't even suggest such a thing within earshot of them either.  They might "take exception."

Regards, Shuckins
