Next Friday TOD - 8th USAAF vs LW
« on: November 08, 2002, 11:25:22 AM »
The next Friday TOD will be some 8th (and 9th) AF vs LW action in late 1944.  I don't have a writeup yet, but I'll give you the planeset so you can make your side decisions.  I hope to have everything ready to go and orders in the hands of Frame COs on Monday or Tuesday.   Let me know if you have the desire to be frame 1 CO and you'll get it.  Otherwise, I'm drafting ya.  :p

8th/9th USAAF planes
A-20
B-17
B-26
P-38L
P-47D-30
P-51D

Luftwaffe planes
109G-10
190D-9
190F-8
Ju88
and...
Me262 (limited)

Get me your side choices no later than Monday morning please.  :)

note: not all planes will be used in every frame, but each of the listed planes will be used at some point over the course of 3 frames.  Hopefully this will give some variety in what the 8th AF throws at the LW, and increase the strategy/guesswork needed on both sides.  Oh yeah, the majority of the attacks will be carried out by the Allied side.  The LW will mostly be in 109s and Doras to buff hunt, but will have the opportunity to use Ju88s and 190F-8s to carry out a strike mission here and there.  Of course a few Me262s will be running around to cause some trouble for the 8th AF pilots.  ;)

I chose late 1944 so we would actually get to see the Dora and P-47D-30 used for once.  I can't recall a Friday TOD since I've been a CM that used either of those two.  :)

I don't see any reason the A8 couldn't be used.  I just figured most 190 fans would get a kick out of using the D9 and F8 instead as we hardly ever use these in TODs while the A5 and A8 get used quite a bit.  I've flown the Me262 and Ta152 more than I've flown a D9 or F8 in TODs.  :)

the d9 was used to engage the escorts. Sturmbocks still attacked the bombers. The fire power that the a8 has makes it a more viable bomber killer even with the d9.

Hey Nifty!   Looks like fun!!

What about the 110G2?  I figured they (LW) used the 110 for bomber interception.

Thanks

Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.

don't bother me about plane choices per frame.  ;)  That's up to your frame COs.  So you better start buttering up to your fellow squad leaders.

or you could volunteer for Frame CO, and then you'd be assured of getting the ride you want for at least one frame.  :D

will there be custom skins this time?  I don't want no steenking 9th AF P-47D-30.  just kidding I like the -30 paintjob, but it would be more fun if it was a 56th jug. ;)

I'm batting for Nimitz this tour. :)  The AKs request Allied this tour and while I know it's up to the frame COs, we would prefer Jugs.  Someone has to keep Ammo off the sauce while he's in the air. :)
