In the last weeks i see more and more people mergin HO.
Not oly N1k i see all plane types comin HO very often in the first merge. And some even do it regardless of loosing advantgae alt.
Why are u guys doing it ?
Its a serious question i might learn something new

I have whined about HOs in the past and as a result I resigned myself to learn how to do them well...and how to avoid them. So, if it was me you saw...I was just practicing...for when I meet Toad in the skies.

is not a whine. I just saw that its comin more and more. I just want ot know why. Because the manouver itslef is really stupid.
Why climbing all the way to waste the "live" in a 50 50 chance to survive.
And the funiest is that a lot of the people loose advantage alt.

fffreeze..no you misunderstood...I'm not saying you are whining at all.

"I" was whining about being shot down in an HO a few months back. I was pissed because I had forced two planes into a valley and was closing for the kill when one of them just turned and HO'd me. I thought it was a cheap shot...but Toad pointed out that it was the smartest move that pilot could have made as I had a clear advantage on him.

As a result of that thread I have resigned myself to getting good at them and/or avoiding them. So...I have been practicing for the day I meet Toad in a HO..just to show him how proficient I have become.

..and PS Toad is a very cool guy who I ended up meeting at the Con...after our little BBS exchange.

Well, I've got a theory. A head-on is something that for most people is a last resort type manuever. Something to do when you have run out of other ideas.

A lot of the people in the MA are new. New people have a limited repetoire of 'tricks'. They run out of ideas faster. Some have yet to get any ideas. They'll learn eventually.

I don't intentionally HO anyone. Most times I do a barrel roll if the bandit is coming at me for one.

As for diving to do an HO, it's the low guy that initiates that most of the time. Many times, I will be diving to engage a bandit from his high six, only to have him pull straight up, trying to reverse into me before I get there. When US or LW planes do that, they are dead meat (they can't reverse that quick) but LA7s, N1Ks and other turn fighters usually can get nose on before I am in firing range. When they do, I try to pull up and go around for another pass.

lets look at this a little different, when i see a enemy i try to close the range to ingage ,i usually try for a lag pursuite to stay on his six,
but if he sees me too far out he will turn to me, then you have no choice but to go head to head, but it does not mean you have to shoot in a "HO", you can break to one side and do a "highway pass", then either extend or do your "pilot stuff" to try to gain advantage.

BTW that move dosen't always work , some times i don't get out of the line of fire and get shot , then i think "stupid , you should have shot back", but if the enemy flys past with out shooting you know he is good and has confidence in his ability and you will be in for a fight.

of course , this is only for 1 v 1 , in a furball you take what shots you can then hope.
