The aircraft was properly grounded before fueling and there's no cigarette anywhere in that picture. It's just his collar as was pointed out.

toad ol buddy... you are having WAY to much fun! Didn't you know that us old folk aren't supposed to have fun? do you know how many people are needlessly killed or injured by private aviation and the reckless thrill seekers involved in it? well... I don't either but... I'm sure beetle has the figures from the "home office" about American aviation! In fact.... it will probly make his sig a few hundred words longer once he get's wind of this recklessness...

fortunately for you... this is a thread that involves fun so he probly won't even know it exists.

Toad - I was not being critical, sorry if you thought I was. The contact of the nozzle and the filler ring is a good thing. I was a fuel service supervisor for a busy airport in New England for a while and a lineman for years

Well, realizing the seriousness of the situation, I've decided that we need a committee to decide what rules any pleasure flight should follow.

Needless to say, proposed flight profiles will have to be submitted in triplicate to the appropriate authorities six months in advance, none of whom have ever just gone flying for the sheer joy of it.

If and when such a flight is approved, there will have to be a surveillance camera in the aircraft and digital recordings of all flight instruments to make sure the approved profile is followed exactly.

After all, nanny says that's the best for all concerned.

Laz, it was truly fun. I REALLY like that airplane.

toad... I truly enjoy seeing people enjoy themselves. In your case.... even more so.. your a great guy. I will gladly take the chance that one of you thrillseekes falls out of the sky onto my fat head if it means you have the freedom to continue to enjoy your sport.. Heck.... even if it means that some nut piles one into a school on purpose.

somehow... I don't think beetle will ever get that concept unless your fun happens to be EXACTLY what he deems to be fun.

Thanks, Laz. I appreciate that.

But you have to understand...... I didn't do it for myself. I did it for ALL of us. I was willing to sacrifice, to be the "common man" of AH players, that HT could take for a ride and thus establish forever his heartfelt concern that all of his subscribers enjoy the game and actual flying.

Therefore, I volunteered to represent us all.

Bonden, NP man. Wasn't really pointed at you but valid safety issues were raised and my photos, though shot as digitally refined as I could do it, perhaps left room for doubt. Just clearing that up. HT is a careful and safe guy, on the ground and in the air. I felt supremely comfortable riding behind him. Just wanted to make that all clear.

Milo and I saw him approach and land along with about 8 of my Heart of America CAF Wing buddies.

The same group saw HT and I launch from the CAF hangar at IXD and return to same.

There's a certain farmer Southeast of IXD that saw the aircraft inflight sorta up close and personal.

MG can think whatever he wants to think.

I've been up with HT and we've explored part of the envelope of that RV-8. Simple truth, simple fact.

MG. Eat yer heart out. It's a GREAT airplane.
