Nothing to laugh about, those snowmobiles.

Very fast, very mobile. Able to insert troops quickly. They were used in the Finnish front from the winter 41-42 forwards and were at times large scale problem, even so that the Air Force bombers flew missions against snowmobile bases. Also patrol aircraft and fighters were used to search and kill the snowmobiles.

You're just showing that you have very little knowlegde about winter fighting by laughing. Winter fighting is not the same as in warm summer or Normandy'44.

Were the Finnish snow mobiles propellor driven? That is what is amusing about this design. It would be surprising if this design ever made it off the drawing board. It looks like a fun toy to drive around on a frozen lake, but for manuevering across a winter battlefield, treads would be better than a propellor in almost every way.

Guess question is about how complicated/expensive/heavy technology do you want to use:
Skis are easy to manufacture and engine doesn't need a gear-box. Cheap to build and at same time very fast.

They look efficient. My only observation is that a prop guard like they have on the swamp boats might have been in order. You dont want to hit a rough patch at speed and get thrown from your seat

btw those things have evolved to Hydrocopters, They're very good when you need to use same vehicle in snow, water, ice and some can be driven in roads too with retractable wheels.

Well, here are some disadvantages of props vs treads:

-props will create torque, making steering difficult at low speeds where skis can't generate enough turn. There is no rudder on this Russian design.

-props create a huge amount of noise

-props will blow a cloud of snow behind them, making detection easier

-a prop will disintegrate if it strkes a tree or the ground

-a prop is dangerous

-in some weather conditions a prop will get iced up and lose thrust

The only advantage to a prop is that it will create thrust no matter how slippery the ground is.
