Here are some of the things that I can think of, that can crash the Terrain Editor. Well it crashes the TE for me
1) Importing.... The TE is size sensitive!!!
BMP must be 1024 X 1024 in size
2) BMP's.... The TE is colour sensitive!!!
BMP's that are in your Terrain-Name folder or Terrain-Name/texsrc folder must be 256 / 8 Bit
3) Placing Shape/Group Objects....
The TE will crash if you try to place the 88MANX object!
4) Skinning Shapes....
The TE crashes if you try to Save Textures of the following:
BHORIZ
DRUNKS
DRUNKSL
ENTPNT
GUNTGT
HANGCV
HANGGNR
HNGBMB4
HNGFTR4
HNGGNR0
HNGGNR4
HNGVEH4
PLNTRC
PYLON
SC500
SC500A
SC500L
SECCNT
TEXRECT
UFO
UFO2
5) Saving....
I guess it depends on your computer. Some people can place tons of stuff before saving, others need to save more often.
I guess I would go with Nuttz thought, and that is, save often!!!!!! this will help keep from overloading the TE.
6) Minimum requirements....
Terrains require a Headquarter for each Country, and they are placed using the first 3 Zones
Each Country needs at least 1 Field
When placing the Prefab Fields watch out because most don't have the MAPROOM which Fields require.
Object Report will help you see whats missing.
So with this in mind it may be best to place a Headquarter and 1 Field for each Country then save. Doing this may help reduce Object placing crashes.
NOTE!!!! When you first open a new terrain there is a TOWER ( F01TWR00 ) located at Grid 10.24 / 10.24, you'll need to delete this when you place Field #1.
7) CVTG's.... If you have any CVTG placed in your terrain and you do a Object Report and "Check Terrain For" is set at "All errors", then the TE will crash.
So, for me, CVTG's are placed last and a Object Report is done first before any CVTG is placed.
