It isn't that big...maybe 35 users. Servers were upgraded from NT to 2000 but every machine had to be upgraded to XP and all applications we use loaded on properly. Some were easy...IT wrote scripts that activated on start-up etc...BUT don't forget..accountants fear change, and we had certain users who wouldn't let go of old DOS accounting packages!!!
Add to that the fact that throughout the past three years we have "tried" to get everything standarised in terms of having all the same computers...but we failed miserably. We had IBM laptops, toshiba laptops, Dell laptops & desktops, as well as a few home-made band-aid machines built by the guy here in emergencies. The driver issues alone was a jigsaw puzzle.
The worst problem we ran into was our time & billing system. Three months ago we sent our database to the manufacturer to get fixed up for the upgrade...they returned it on Friday at 1.00pm. As a result we couldn't test it beforehand....and boy what a huge pain in the bellybutton it was....I must have installed it (by logging on as admin) on every machine 8 or 9 times.
Basically I was the IT managers squeak...and dealt with the individual workstations. IT told me what to do and I did it. I only saw the "tip of the icebeg" because I didn't do any server work.
Anyway...its done and we are up and running...zero down time.
Again...you IT guys ROCK.
