« on: December 02, 2002, 09:39:11 PM »
i got a freind computer im working on now,,,it locks up once and a while,,,only on aces high and microsoft flight sim,,,i guess it ran fine with rogue spear,,,,well,,it had a old geforce 1 card in it,,,so we got him a new geforce 4 mx440 with ddr,,,i put 256k more memory in his computer,,its a pentuim 3<~~and runs really good and stable,,,well, after i did all that to it,,it played for about 40min,,i left his house,,and it locked up after i left,,and it locks up too were windows or nothing works,,you have to shut it down and restart,,,,and he says somtimes he can play for 30min,,and some times he only gets 10seconts!!,,,well,i done every driver reboot you could imagine

i replaced most of the 3d stuff,,sence it only seems to happen while in 3d mode,,because it will run online all day and not lock up once,,but only in a game

i was woundering one thing!! could a old turtle beach montago sound card be the problem?,,is it maybe locking up the computer?

geforce 4MMX, why didn't you get a ti4200? or a GF3, it would have been a better buy.
ACES HIGH seems CPU intensive, start monitoring his CPU temps, you might need better cooling or new Heatsink goop.  Artic Silver is what I use.  what kind of machine, you were very vague.  List like this will help

P4 - 2.4 GHZ
Asus P4t533 MB
256MB rimms
Fastrack133lite w/ 2 80gb drives striped
Cmedia on-board sound
Nvidia GF4-Ti4200
Windows XP Pro
Intel Nic

Also posting temperatures will be helpful too.

card has nothing to do with his problem,,and for the price and speed,,it was the best one in town,,mx440 {ddr} only costed 90bucks,,and it was getting a nice 75  to 90 frames a sec on aces high,,,but,,for no reason it would lock up,,i know it has nothing to do with the 3d card, because it did the same thing on the old 3d card,,it was a geforce 256,,it was locking up too,,but i was just wondering if anyone had any problems because of sound,,only thing that hasnt been replaced is the sound card,,and i heard it could cause lock up problems too,,it is a turtle beach montago,,and i dont know if its very game worthy sound card,,lol

turtlebeach puts out pretty good cards, I had one for year.  I wasn't attacking your choice of video cards, please don't take it the wrong way :)  If you have turned hardware accelleration for the soundcard down and it still locks up  it may very well be a heat issue.   If you have another sound card (like a SBlive) try it and see.

Try a memory checking program.  Get one that creates a boot disk and runs after booting from that disk.  I had random lockups and I couldn't burn a CDROM with more than about 200 meg without errors, and found I had a bad stick of memory.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

i put new memory in it,,i dont think its the memory,,because it plays all day and night online with out lock ups,,,it only locks up during game play,,and i know you wasnt attack the choice in cards:),,,it was just the best bargin we could get with out spending 200bucks to get a ti card,,,and plus it had ddr on it video card,,,so it works fine,,im thinking its the sound card,,because its the only othere card in the computer that would effect game play in 3d mode,,i was just wondering if anyone had the same problem with a turtle beach montago,,i think its a old card too,,about 3 years,,maybe the card is just bad,,i reloaded every driver on it

Like I suggested try another card just to be sure,  I would want you to rush out and buy a card "just to see"
