collision bubble?
« on: July 30, 1999, 03:44:00 PM »
This old dead horse needs some more kicking.

Will there be a collision bubble in AH like there is in Warbirds? Most dissapointing thing in Warbirds is to collide with an 80 foot invisible wall sticking off the bottom of a B-17, sometimes i just log off in disgust. Please please please! Let's see it done right this time

I don't know yet, it hasn't been written.  HT was kicking around some designs in his head last week that would detect where you collided and what damage you took.

Don't let HT kick himself in the head, we need those brains!

Oh, and they have those neat, comfy jackets that you can get so as to make it harder for folks to hurt themselves.  Of course, until you figure out how get out of them.  Not that ozknows, just he um...heard about someone who did...uh oh, gotta run!

There have been a number of would you leave WB if, type of posts on AGW. What will you do this fall when the new sims come out? That sort of thing.

For what it is worth. The sim I chose will be the one with the smallest collision bubble

Pyro, do you mean that it will be possible to survive a collision? And both sides will take some damage?

If so - we will finaly have intentional ramming (taran) possible!

Just imagine: you are over your field and copletely out of ammo. You spot a bomber who is about to drop. You have to stop it by all means, so you cut his tail structures with your prop and glide for a safe landing... It will take a lot of time to learn - but it will be possible!

Boroda,

Strictly speaking it is possible now in WB. It is not easy and while it is predictable its going to be a guess where you need to be since you really don't know your lag or the targets. It also depends on the direction the attacker is comming from relative to the attackee.

i leave the rest to an exercise for the reader.

No matter what we do, collision detection will remain local to your front end.  Until latency is not an issue, there isn't a better way.

Thx Pyro

I guess my big question remains... will the bubble be like a soccer ball or a chesseburger?

Cheeseburger is preferred ;-)
