How Many Play for Scores?

What little time I play MA...

I find a field being vulched, usually hop in my favorite plane (P-40B), and see if I can get off the ground and fight. If I die everytime without even getting to fire back, I may switch to an A6M5, a Spitfire MkIX, or a P-38. If I still keep dying, I may switch to another field and take off in a P-38 to come back to the vulched field.

If I can't find a field being vulched... I look for the biggest red bar that is reasonably close to one of my fields.

Obviously, I don't score well by playing this way, nor am I much of a team player... I just come in to get some quick adrenaline hits by flying solo against really bad odds.

Sometimes, I at best delay a field capture. On a good day, the vulchers run out of fuel and ammo (after killing me a million times on the runway), so I finally get off the ground, chase them home, and the base survives intact.

My absolute favorite is going into a mess of Spits and N1Ks all alone with a P-40B and getting a kill or two before finally succumbing to superior aircraft and pilots :)

Score? What's that? I pay to have fun, so that's what I do.

The only stat I really worry about is my K/D in the P51 aircraft.  I do like to use all aspects of the game though so that usually lends itself to a reasonable rank.  This month I am being more careful to get a top 15 spot but I haven't really changed the way I fly, I'm just concentrating on my SA more.

lol, we're almost diamterically opposed in fighting styles.

check our respective stats and ranks, and you can see that k/d is over-rated as a stat as a measure of a player.

i'm just doing the usual kill everything and die thing i do with a little goofing around in buffs and gv's to game the stats.  not really trying for the top 15, but if i end up in there, hopefully it'll annoy someone who tried hard.

Last tour I played for K/D ratio - had it as high as 17 for a period, but ended up with around a 9.1K/D+1 by the end of the tour I think with about 3 kills per sortie.

It was "gratifying" but not fun.  This tour Im a furballin' spit dweeb.  :D

I don't really think k/d is an accurate yard stick either, after all, anyone can cherry pick and get a good k/d.  I just have set it as a goal to keep the highest k/d possible (I really want to go a tour without any deaths in the pony, oh well, maybe next month).  I realise that having to fly back to a base and land hurts k/t (and hence rank), but I don't really care that much. :)  I have kept a good k/d this tour (so far) but it has been more luck than good management most of the time, somehow the guys chasing me always seem to turn back about 10 seconds before my fuel runs out.  :D

And, as always, I can still be found at the bottom of a furball dragging 6 cons yelling for my squaddies to clear my 6, it's just that I'm trying to avoid that situation more this tour. :)

I played for score this tour (the first week) but not for rank. I tried to survive (in a fighter) as long as i could. Managed to get 35 kills and only one ditch as an osti pinged and killed me.
This kind of game play decreases ur overall rank (even though i've had a K/D of 35) cause u have to fly very very defensive not to say overcautious and for this reason have a Kill/hour thats horrible. If ur and outstanding pilot like Fester u wont have these problems.
Now I fly for fun mostly but sure I try to survive and also try to improve my score cause thats the way I like to fly - to survive and not to die.
The problem is i would engage much more cons if I only knew I would stay 1 vs. 1 or 1 vs. 2 but it's so often u engage a con and have a good fight for 1 min. unless 3 or 5 of his friends show up and kill u. I really dont like this behaviour and therefore i sometimes prefer to run away and let me call a coward instead of giving the gangbanges an easy kill.

i usually enjoy playing all categorys of the game, so i've been in the top 100 the last 4-5 tours, but i dont have good rank as a target...it just comes.

This tour, ill try to get in top 15 but im not gonna let it ruin my game by doing booring stuff. If i make it im happy, if i dont ill still get my sleep at night :D

Rank in it self has no value.....ohh except the cash this time. :D

I believe there to be two distinctly different games within AH...one is played by the scoreboard, the other by the seat of your pants.

I used to play, not to the scoreboard as much as to a specific style of flying...I enjoy relaxing and staying hot while killin folks and landing those kills...Lazs calls it sky accounting:)

The last two camps I've been seat of the pants...it has definetly hurt the scoring aspect of things, however, my skills have sharpened considerably in the yank and bank world.

Which is the best or correct way to play? I would say the style that makes ya happy.

One thing for certain, since I've been turn fighting, I've lost my groove when it comes to 400mph snap shots....still, I'm having fun playing and that's what it's about for me.

We changed our squad name to 3./JG2 Score potatos.

But thats misleading. We like to kill stuff without dieing. Some in the squad like to kill lotsa of stuff. They kill um a2a sitting on the runway, afk it dont matter.

Ag landed 40 kills in 2 sorties and that was right after a 10 kill vulchfest. There was 5 of us on and we landed near 80 kills in that same time. All in, probrably, less then 2 hours.

We dont fly to spend 3 hours blowing up ground structures in endless waves of suicide.

Flying as rook you either are gangbanged, gangbanging or bored. Thats just how it is. We dont like being bored and we sure aint up to be gangbanged.

Furballs always end up with suicide bishnits flying in 1 at time picking off the fuel at our base until the furball ends up a base rape. So they are few and fleating when they do happen.

Does score matter? I guess but if score only went by k/d we wouldnt care. That would be boring as hell with a sky full of timid aerial straffers and runners.

The score system now is about killing, killing fast and killing alot while in every type vehicle. If you think thats dweeby well just carry on with your 50 man "mission/gangbanngs" and suicide raids.

We also have other guys in the squad that just fly a few types of planes and have fun just doing sweeps with the rest of the guys. That hate getttin killed but dont we all..............

I think scoring is important in any game, therefore I pay attention to them. But, there is always a danger for any player to go overboard and allow the score to be the only thing for example score potatos.
I don't let scores determine the way I fly, so I will help others out, and I won't usually fly in front of another simply to get a kill (unless it's done to me, but thats another competition :)
There's so much to learn in AH, so a score is a momentary thing; you fly the next hop and get wiped and wind up sitting in HQ wondering what happened.
The fun for me is the competition. The perkies come in handy too, so I can fly those exotic and expensive hi perked planes to see what the hubbub is all about:)
Still, everybody flies for his/her own reasons.

I attempt to play the game as designed (without the dweeby short cuts) and to have fun in each sortie whatever I am doing.  Believe it or not, these are not mutually exclusive objectives.
