Crappy way to go

Friend of mine sent me these pics. Warning, some may find this disturbing:

Text from email:

A CREW MEMBER ON A LAND OIL RIG IN AMAZONAS WENT OUT AND TOOK A NAP. YES, A NAP. HE WAS MISSING AND THIS IS WHAT THEY FOUND.

Yuck.  How big was the snake? How small was the man?

My grandfather had the skin of a large snake he got in North Africa, I guess it was a python.  He had it running along the wall of a spiral staircase going from the 1st floor of his house to the 2nd floor.

That's really freaky.

So the snake must have strangled/suffocated him first, and then swallowed him, right?

Yea that's what I'm thinking. The anaconda must have grabbed him around the head or throat then wrapped him up to suffocate the poor guy.

That's how they work, they strangle their pray then swallow them whole.  Same for pythons.

I'm pretty sure they just crush their prey...

Suffocation is a side effect of a crushed chest... makes it easier to swallow too.

No, they dont crush or strangle. What they do is fixate (crappy english translation from me).

What they do is they hold you pinned down, just hold you in place. Then, every time you let some air out of your lungs, every time you exhale the snake tightens the grip, just a little little bit more.

Animals are our brothers.  The snake was just doing what came naturally.  How dare they kill it!  P.E.T.A. will hear about this!

Sorry.  It's not really a laughing matter.  The man had family who loved him.  What a gruesome way to die.   They should be in our prayers.

I knew that was true of smaller snakes.. but I thought the Anaconda crushed the chests of it's prey?

btw, the word you want is asphyxiate.

Thanks for the clarification Hort.

Yup, asphyxiate.  In this case, all the snake would have to do to kill me is look at me.

Mak - I saw these very pics about 3 years ago. They look genuine, but your post seems to indicate that it might have happened recently. I don't think so.

Good god, I didnt even know it was possible for a snake that size to eat a grown man.  If its real, imagine how far it's jaws would have to separate..

Thanks for the translation guys.

From what I've heard, the snake asphyxiates its victim, then before digesting, it pulls the pray out, disjoining all limbs, making it easier to swallow.

Think of it this way, first it wraps itself around the victim holding it in an iron grip. Then, after the victim is dead, the snake "stretches out" while holding that grip, kinda like we do when we squeeze the water out of a towel.

All I said was my friend sent me these. Said nothing about when it happened. So, shut up you damn Brit!!!

I never get to play in the US/Euro conflict on these boards so I figure I'd give it a shot.  :)
