Yay! I managed to solve my crashing problems without a full reinstall. The culprit was SETI! Now I've had this going for over a year, so I don't see how it could be, except that I don't know when I upgraded to 3.07

IT WAS AN ALIEN TRYING TO COMMUNICATE, AND YOU DELETED HIM (HER?IT?)

Oh well, at least your computer works now.

hehehe, I have SETI running at home and at work too :-).  Who knows maybe I'll find ET

I ALWAY shut Seti down before I go into AH or anyother game for that matter.  Solves many a problem
