time to un neuter the machine guns and cannons
« on: September 09, 2000, 01:45:00 AM »
since we have our realism and maneuverability its time to un nerf all the guns.

30cal 50cal 12.7mm etc.

as is 4 50cal in nose of p38 is about useless unless there is some kind of bug w that planes guns which i doubt

Aww c'mon Funked don't upset the lad..he's already whining because there's another bomber that can go high enough to make him actually have to work for a kill and not just dive down on so its only natural that he'd like uber cannons to make things easier for him.

No, Citabria has a point (at least with the P-38's guns!)

Last night I mustva gotten like 25 assists because those fargin bb guns only create nice light effects, but no damage!

In all cases during that night I would close to d400 or less and SPRAY a con with 300 rounds of lead, the great majority of them were hits, the cons became one glowing mother because of the pings... AND NO DAMAGE. The planes FLEW OFF, no pieces fell off, no smoke, I even TALKED to some of the guys I fired at and they said they had heard a hell of a lot of pings and thought they were dead... but they werent damaged at all.

So WTF is up with this??? 4 .50's on a P-51 kill just fine, but 4 .50's and 1 20mm cannon (which being packed less than 2 feet away make any shot to have BRUTAL effect) doesnt scratch the paint? WHAT?.

I had similar experiences with the 47's 8 50's but not all the time. I think what we were experiencing may have been due in large part to the connect quality in the arena with all the downloads going on.

For the most part I had trouble following a con up close because of the warping but occasionaly had a good fight with the expected results.

I think this will change as soon as the majority of the downloads are finished.

If a horrible shot like me can get kills in the Yak, the 38 would be a total pleasure now

I'm sorry to hear your guns are under-modelled; I'm sure HTC will give 'em more punch.
Maybe you should start to fly more 109 Cit

I am aware of netlag. But answer this.. why is it than when I flew the 4 .50 pony, to TEST the gun effects, the pony killed with no problem! Even at d800 shots with NO convergence at all, a short burst does the trick. Now we are talking about 4 guns spread on the wings.. the dispersion on those bullets would make such shots to be ridiculously impossible (and convergence set to 300!). Yet the 38's 4 .50's, that have perfect convergence AND a 20mm cannon all less than a foot apart does no damage when you unload 200 or 300 rounds into someone? It doesnt smell like something's fishy is going on... it reeks.

Hmm found the easiest kill in a p38 is the 1000 yard strt 6 shot ,,  shreds em everytime , only sniper plane in the arena. I see a p38 d1-d1.2 my 6 and i pretty much give myself 50/50 on living.

No opinion .. yet .. but here's some observations..

Off line mode; 4 50's, P51D. 11 kills before winchester.

On Line.. 5 assisits. Same ranging; same lead; same number and frequency of flashes.

Upped on line loadout to 6 50's. Similar results. Guns seem quite ineffective.

Question.. is on-line damage modeling the issue.. or the guns modeling.. or the internet/servers/lost packet thingie the issue?

Dunno..... what are you guys seeing?

I tried it offline only to check on the P-38 with 10x normal ammo load. I'll check H2H after the "Dload 1.04" craze has past. Here's what I got offline:

Sometimes the drones warped so I had to chase 'em down. Anyway, the P-38 has no problems killing offline with the .50s alone.  A few seconds firing usually ended in damage that would either bring down a plane or the drone exploded. Blowing wings off was easy only using the .50s, throw in the 20 mike-mike and those drones went BOOM real fast. Also tried the 20mm alone just to check. It took a bit longer than I would like to cause catastrophic damage. An example:

First drone took 4 full seconds of .50 cal fire to blow the wing and rear fuselage off. The 20 mike-mike took nearly 7 seconds of sustained fire, mostly hits, to do the same thing.

I did find one thing that helped kill a drone faster, yet used less ammo. Fire only the .50 cals to get some hits before adding in the 20mm to finish the job. I used 80 rounds less of 20mm ammo than if I fired all the guns at once.

My guess as to this? King-Hell net lag caused by both rotten connections and downloading 1.04. Remember 1.03 and the lag it came with? This is the same thing, on a larger scale since HTC has more customers.

Personally I'm going to wait until the downloading craze has past before checking this out in H2H.
