This is not correct.  If it were correct each Tour would see another aircraft perked, and the aircraft perked the previous month unperked.

As best as anybody outside of HTC (and HTC isn't talking) has been able to tell the F4U-1C was perked because it was getting ~20% of the kills and three times the kills of the runner up in the popularity contest.

In the case of the P-51D it managed just 11.01% of the kills, and that was surely influenced by the fact that it just got a major face lift.  The runner up, the Spitfire Mk IX, got 10.16% of the kills, not even a full percentage point behind the P-51D.

The P-51D simply isn't anywhere near as dominating as the F4U-1C was.

Not to mention the F4U-1C at the peak of its use was far more dominating than the P-51D.  The C-hog frequently maintained a K/D of 1.3 or better (very high for a mass-use fighter); the P-51 OTOH generally has a K/D of well under 1:1.

That IMO is why you don't see many P-51 complaints...people don't mind fighting a plane that they can readily kill.

Karnak how is that not correct? Before the -C was perked it was one of the most flown AC in the roster. Now that is exactly what is happening with the 51D not to mention the N1K and the LA7. If you dont think so just check the tour logs. I started at tour 20 and went to tour 35 and guess what plane was always in the top 5 most of the time top 3 of AC with kills? 51D

I am not saying that when one plane is perked others should be unperked. All I am saying is that if a plane likt the -c is going to be perked because it gets to fly alot then so should all the other planes that are popular.

It's really the last couple tours that the P-51D takes the top spot in percentage of kills and I suspect this is because the Spit9 flyers now split their choice between that and the Seafire/SpitV.  I personally rarely flew the P-51D before (preferring the P-51B) until this new P-51D was released and due to its beauty, I have been flying it exclusively.  Like the Spitfire, the Mustang is famous and a lot of people will gravitate towards it but neither are huge menaces in the MA based on their K/D ratios.

What is interesting is that the percentage of kills seemed to overall be dropping each month for the top spots until just recently and it's spiked up a little again.

The F4U-1D is nothing great in the MA and for its popularity in the real world holds a low percentage-of-kills and K/D ratio.  But switch its guns out (to create the F4U-1C) and it becomes something that needs to be perked.  I can't put my finger on it, but there has to be something wrong with cannons or the damage model in this game if cannons can be so dominating to create this dichotomy.  So for now, the fans of American Iron are limited in regards to the punch they can weild.

Thanks for pointing that out.  I usually only check the first tour its released.

I disagree with that. I'm a G10 and Fw pilot, and mustangs are the biggest pains in the ass.. worse than LA7's. If I come across a competant mustang pilot (1% of them tops) in a G10, the only way I'm gonna get the kill fast is to rope them... a tactic that usually works, but since the thing fires 50 cals, occasionally you get licked from d700 before they stall out.. A dora and a mustang meeting coalt, with equally skilled pilots.. the dora is pretty much screwed.

The only reason the mustang k/d is terrible is because so many newbies fly it.. when you first install AH, it's the default plane.

I flew the P-51D almost exclusively last month and the only aircraft I have a negative K/D ratio to is the 190D9.  So in my particular situation, I guess I'd have to disagree with you on that one.

Why is this apparently only fighter vs fighter? Why not also consider bomber and GV or boat kills - surely this would give a more accurate picture as to whats going on in the MA.

The Hawg-C was perked because it was the King HO Kite.

It has a great armament arrangement, 2 pairs of hispano's tightly groups with a good sighting elevation. We used to see hordes of 1C's doing one thing... HOing and Hosing. It was a game killer for many. There were also some FM tweaks that happened either at or shortly after perking.

Where are you guys getting the "fm tweaks" information on the F4u-1C?  I don't recall anything other than them reducing the weight a couple of hundred pounds.

Thats what he was talking about, adding 600lbs to a plane is something I'd consider an fm tweak... There was no reducing, it was 300lbs lighter than D when in actuality it was 300lbs heavier, a net difference of 600lbs.

yea i would call adding 600 lbs a fm tweak.

like shooting a horse with a broke leg is a livestock tweak.

also the guns are less powerfull. used to be one or two was all your ever needed. unless it was torque. then 20 or 30.

Sorry Vulcan I am not buying that in whole. There was never a reason given to why the -C was perked by HiTech. So everyone that was around when it happened can only offer speculation and opinions. I am not arguing against the fact that the -C should not have been perked. All I am saying is if you are going to perk 1 plane because people use it as a HO master, then it is only proper to perk other planes that are as popular now as what the -C was then.

If we take your example for the reason of perking the -C then that would make the LA-7 a perfect candidate for perking.

The P51D is by far, out of all the plane set, the worst aircraft in AH.  It is only flown because of it’s mystique from history long ago and American propaganda.  The aircraft, although fast, is not very capable and I find it extremely difficult to fly, especially in high speed and high G maneuvers.

I’m not even going to get started on it’s anemic load out and shallow bullet load.

Now please, back away, there is nothing to see here.
