I had lunch with two Yanks today. :)
« on: January 04, 2003, 01:19:46 PM »
Yep, old friends over here on a social visit. Neither is a gun owner - LOL! :p We had lunch at a place in Chelsea, not far from where one of them is staying, and then sort of split into two groups. It was shortly after that that one Yank told me how the other Yank had been whining about this and that... can't buy this in England, can't do that, can't find the other, waah-waah-waah...

OK, as friends are fond of reminding us - the USA has everything, but...

...when I go to a poor country like Indonesia, for example, it does not occur to me to say something daft like "I can't buy a pint of London Pride out here", or "why are there no black cabs out here", or "why can't I get breakfast 24/7?".

And that's because we are more culturally aware. :D We know that different countries have different strengths and weaknesses. If I'm in Indonesia, I might eat Nasi Goreng. If in Germany, make it bratwurst/wienerschnitzel. In Spain, paella is a must. In Italy, just say "feed me" - it WILL be good!

But pry a Yank from his/her homeland, and he/she will be wondering why he can't find a Dunkin Donuts on the same city block. Oh yeah, that's another thing - we have to translate all distances into "blocks" -lol. Smokers gripe because they have to PAY for matches!

Going to keep this short. I'll let StSanta, Curval, Dowding and the rest of the gang add the necessary embellishments.

Oh and Lazs - the one thing the yanks love are the London black cabs. Best in the world. I always wondered why the most common given name for a NYC cabby was Muhammad - lol!

Isn't it obvious? If they didn't own guns, they weren't Americans. You've been duped. :D

If people with guns never murdered more than 100 a year in UK, why ban guns?

People that used alcohol killed or murdered many times more.....

Alcohol use influences humans phsyically, guns are just inanimate objects.  Let's ban alcohol in the UK.

You know, I read that post twice and I've still yet to find the point. Seems to just be an excuse to stereotype and bash Americans. Typical stupid Brit for you.

I was hoping you were going to add "and one of them kicked my ass".

So I think that Beetle is trying to say that England totaly sucks because they don't have a DD on every block.

I don't know what "Toodle-Pip" means, however...
I guess I could go find a "Gay to Americanized English" dictionary if I really wanted to know...  But I don't.

i feel entitled to squeak about breakfast in europe- it's always like 3 pieces of thick toast, some musli or a pastry of some sort. it's barely worth getting up for save for the coffee.

in america they have the 24 hour shovel it on, damn i'm a fat ass, 12-egg-bacon-swiss-o-rama bucket.

you can't beat american breakfasts.
