.permasquelch tardlet

Adds "tardlet" to a file called squelch.txt in your AH directory.

Everybody in that file gets automatically squelched when you log in.

If you want to remove them you just edit the file.  :)

I think what you guys are missing is the fact that you know who to squelch already, a new player sees all and his first impression shouldn't be of an arena where players would think it's OK to act poorly because "you can always just squelch me".

It's not the solution but a band-aid to make your AH experience more fun and at the same time ignoring the real problem.

That is what I understand HTC's position to be regarding a perm squelch.

Sounds like a tough problem to fix. Booting people for their Ch1 ramblings seems like it could get ugly w/o some firm guidlines or ROC to follow.

MrLars,

Yes, that is quite evident.

However in many cases it has simply led to players squelching all of channel 1 as soon as they log in.

Because the ".squelch 1" function is there we already silence the entire annoying thing, removing it from our screens, but not from the screens of new players.  By including this function HTC has already done that damage.

Squelch em.Squelch em all   It would be a good thing to have a perma squelch. Why miss the better half of channel 1 or whatever channel thats being abused, when it would probebly be fairly simple to fix. HT is this more trouble than its worth to adjust?

Does HT realy expect that players with good manners use their spare time to try to educate people with a low-level mind?

Most people want to have fun in the game and they dont want to do what someones parents and social environment should have done long time ago.

I noticed by myself that ,few month ago,Yankee banned an impolite guy from the game. And she didnt try to educate him before. Just one warning and BOOM.

Also in BBS it happens from time to time that someone has been banned.
Why does HTC dont take the time to educate them?

After last night in the MA I find that I must way in on this topic, I spend most of the time just following this board but last night's activtiy by one individual has prompted me to post:mad:   A certain individual Not to be Named J B  7 9  is driving the hole arena nuts, this country jumping, squad hopping little Flame magnet is making AH life much less enjoyable that it should be, I can squelch ch 1 OK, but since this dweeb master has moved to ROOKs now I have to squelch country freq as well ? PLEASE bring Perma- squelch and to AH and help bring Harmonious combat to the MA

alternatives (compromises for hitech):

(1) Rather than a "perma-squelch" a persistent squelch of some interval (days/hours/whatever).

(2) A dot command or some such to send a or message "X" to your last kill or killer regardless of channel 1 squelch status - without having to go to trouble of typing pilot name (which is difficult in battle)

It is already this way.  The problem is you have to retype the commands every session, and you are only allowed to squelch just so many.

squelch list Macro
« Reply #42 on: January 06, 2003, 10:00:56 AM »
If you have an empty slot on a joy stick, or a throttle you may wish to add a squelch macro and edit it as jerks appear.  This worked well for AW.  I don't have a TM throttle anymore (old one finally died after 10 years of service ) But once I get another I will make another macro just for squelch.

I would have to agree on the squelch list!

It drives me nuts to hear all these guys yapping all the time about how everyone should fly their way the whole while taking up the all the time on the txt buffer or voice!

It's  bad enough when I can't give a check 6 verbally but when someone is talking I can't hear any damage I might be taking.

I think I have a pretty good idea why HTC is resisting the prema squelch, but it is reaching a point where something will have to be done, IMO.

Perhaps, if X percent of those online in an arena (30%? 50%?)squelch an individual then the transcrips get logged and sent to HTC and the individual(s) gets muted until HTC can decide where to go from there. You could even start looking at a person's squelch history, but with human supervision over the process. Penalties could include a week of ch1 muting, a month, suspensions, banning -- whatever was appropriate.

Perhaps the solution is more online moderators but a clearly established code of conduct and maybe even some limits as to what you can discuss on channel one. There are some games that ban political, religious and other sensitive topics.

Whatever the solution, immature idiots can present a bad public face for the game.
