Yank showing well in England...
« on: January 20, 2003, 10:53:23 AM »
Brian McBride has 3 goals in 2 matches while on loan to Everton.  :)  He had both goals in the 2-1 win over Sunderland (one was admittedly a lucky bounce after an overhead kick, while the other was very nicely taken in traffic!)  He probably won't get an offer from Everton (he's there right now because of injuries/suspensions,) but if he continues to show well, another club might make MLS a money offer on him.

Not a bad 8 months for the guy.  Scores two game winners in the World Cup (against Portugal and Mexico) and now has 3 goals in the Premiership, one is a game winner and keeping Everton 5th in the table.  :)

Go Yank players!  (heh, his first Premiership goal was on Kasey Keller!)

So what silly game is this he's playing?  Anything with an 'overhead kick' cannot be a real sport.  Is it some kind of Riverdance thing?

Yeah he's a good player. Should be interesting to see how he copes with the pace in the long run.

I should think clubs like Bolton etc should be interested going on current performance. Maybe even the mid-tablers. :)

You forgot that McBride also helped Columbus win the US Open Cup last year!

We already lost Brad Friedel to Liverpool/Blackburn.  Make the Premier League get their own players.

Mickey, don't forget Stern John in Birmingham as well (who scored on Friedel recently!)

heh, what is it with soccer bashers?  Plenty of people don't like baseball, football, basketball and hockey, but none of those ever get the jokes and whatnot that soccer does.  Must be because it's a sport where the English can kick our butts in.  Or they're just afraid that one day soccer will be more popular than their favorite sport.  :D

Dowding, what's the deal with Sky Sports News?  We get that over here on our Fox Sports World channel.  I watched it to see McBride's goals and Shearer's 10 second goal, and they didn't show any highlights of Premiership games in the hour, except for Man U over Chelsea.  The other top flight games were just the scores and comments from the coaches and maybe a player or two.  Then they show just about every frickin' goal from the Nationwide leagues, all 3 divisions!  Maybe I just caught the wrong edition of the news...  :(

Well, baseball is cricket for simpletons and those that have problems understanding rules, basketball is an exhibition sport for footwear manufacturers, American football is a demonstration a lack of an understanding of either basic human physiology or the English language, ice hockey is a sport played by eskimo-wannabes who need something to do because it's so damned cold and their women are so ugly.

Hey, if you can give it out, you've got to be able to take it, right? ;) :D

Nifty - I dunno mate, I don't watch Sky Sports News. But it's a Dirty Digger (Rupert Murdoch) corporation so you can't expect too much. His newspapers are just advertising for his TV channels. Have you tried Newcastle's website for the goal, or done a search on google. Someone will have captured it and put it on the net. :)

Shearer is still a great player - shame he didn't get more support as England captain.

A young man from my home town is playing soccer in Germany (or was). Landon Donovan is his name. I think he was on the US World Cup team too.

It already is, and has been for a long time.

But Ugly Americans living in their little buble of reality haven't really realized there are other people in the world.

Oh man, that was fun. Especially after the cemetary tourist post by Toad :D
