WTC Collapse

"Seismographs at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., 21 miles north of the WTC, recorded strange seismic activity on Sept. 11 that has still not been explained.

While the aircraft crashes caused minimal earth shaking, significant earthquakes with unusual spikes occurred at the beginning of each collapse.

The Palisades seismic data recorded a 2.1 magnitude earthquake during the 10-second collapse of the South Tower at 9:59:04 and a 2.3 quake during the 8-second collapse of the North Tower at 10:28:31.

However, the Palisades seismic record shows that—as the collapses began—a huge seismic “spike” marked the moment the greatest energy went into the ground. The strongest jolts were all registered at the beginning of the collapses, well before the falling debris struck the Earth."

Seismic spikes

Strange days indeed.

Indeed.

Maybe it was bombs placed at the base of the buildings to jar the start of the collapse? Hmmmmm, maybe all part of a Bush plot to turn America against the Middle East so as to steal their oil?

IIRC the WTC collapsed from the inside first.
The outer walls seem to have collapsed after the inner structure gave way.  When I watched it happen on TV, it seemed to fall in on itself from the top down.

Maybe there was more to the plan than we know, maybe there were truckbombs also...  They've done it before.

Or maybe it is a conspiracy between the CIA and george bush!

I am shocked that the collapse of a huge building would cause strange seismic readings.  Clearly there is a huge chimpy conspiracy at work.  My tinfoil hat, please.

Strange... Lamont's database doesn't list any earthquakes of any magnitude in NYC after between February 2001 and the end of September 2001.

Huh.  I wonder where they got their data.

It's not a question of the collapse causing seismic readings.  And although they may not be a shock you, they seem to be a surprise to actual seismologist.

Apparently the seismic event was very short and happened at the beginning of the collapse, before the the debris of the building hit the ground.

Were the hell did the data go then?

"Shaking the ground

When the crumbling towers thudded to the ground, they created ground tremors equal to earthquakes of magnitude 2.1 and 2.3, as measured by a seismic station in Palisades, New York, 21 miles (34 kilometers) north of Manhattan.

These would be small numbers for earthquakes, not likely to be felt by anyone, since an earthquake is typically centered miles below the surface, its energy radiating out and dissipating over great distances. But the energy from the collapse of the towers was focused in a very small area, making it remarkable that the events were detected at all outside lower Manhattan.

Much of this energy went into destroying the buildings themselves and generating the cloud of debris."
