Not hardly.

Obsolete was what my voodoo 5500's were when I bought them. Company had just gone out of business and the price dropped like a rock.

Know what, those 5500's have done just FINE for me for the last 2 years.

Good news for Gamers, ubetcha,
Anything that can keep nVidia from having a monopoly is a good thing.

I wouldn't put it quite that way Animal.

NVidia suffered a couple of setbacks. They gambled on being able to get .13 done in time and lost.
They also, apparently, were caught completely off guard with the R300.

Unfortunately, due to design cycles, they will not be able to get back into the speed race until about November this year.

The NV35 vs R400 will be a good one. NVidia now knows ATI can get high performance parts done and ATI knows they know. Should be a good battle between these two parts.

Oh,..any video technology you buy today will be outdated in 6 months. I have had my 9700Pro for about 5 months, and I don't think I have anything to pine about.
I knew the R350 and RV350 were coming in March when I bought my 9700Pro, so it doesn't phase me. My plan was to buy the R300, then R400, thus giving me a year between video card purchases.
I doubt much will happen in the gaming industry to make my 9700Pro strain before the end of the year.

i know your a power user really im curious what would stress a 9700 lol?

Ever use Maya vader?

I stress the poop out of my card in a lot of games. I crank up the resolutions and turn up eye candy.

In the end, for me, it is about image quality. The 9700Pro has about the best image quality on themarket right now. I have a very high end video monitor which allows me to see a huge difference between video cards.
The depth and clarity of the 9700Pro is really the best I have ever witnessed.
