Don't get me wrong, I'm really glad to have a new map and Trinity looks like it'll be a lot of fun. However, I ran into a number of technical problems last night with it that somewhat undercut my enjoyment of the debut. While these might have been the result of hundreds of 3+meg downloads going on while I was trying to fly, maybe some of them need looking into.
Problems noticed:
1. HQ RESUPPLYDespite at least a dozen C47 loads dumped on the Rook HQ between about 1900 and 2000 US Central time, radar still remained down. During the drops, all HQ buildings appeared to be intact, and quite often pilots received 0 perks for a drop.
2. FIELD RESUPPLYAll the Rook fields in the NE area of the map were incredibly porked, apparently thanks to a continual carpet bombing campaign by a squad of B17 afficionados. Problem was, however, the damage never repaired. Convoys didn't do anything, nor did supply drops.
3. HUGE TEXT LAGI was in the arena from about 1900 to 2045. During this time, there were numerous episodes of text lag ranging anywhere from 15 seconds to several minutes. While these were happening, vox still worked in realtime and there was no change in the frequency or number of warping planes. Numerous squaddies reported similar observations.
4. BIG WARPSThese were sporadic and generally limited to only 1 visible plane at a time. But when they happened, they were quite severe, the plane zipping miles at a time, or freezing in place for many seconds. Numerous squaddies reported similar observations.
5. DELAYED DAMAGEOften times, it took a very long time for damage to register. This worked both when you shot somebody and when somebody shot you. This wasn't constant, and most damage occurred immediately. But when damage was delayed, it was often by a very long time. Damage delay seemed directly to correspond with text lag.
For instance, near the start of a 5+ minute text lag, I thought I'd successfully dodged an attack. The nme plane came in without warping, I heard his motor and also heard his guns, but saw no tracer and felt no pings. I figured he had tracers turned off and had missed me clean. Then I egressed 1.5 sectors without further attack, taking at least 5 minutes, with no new text the whole time. But when I was on final approach, suddenly PINGPINGPINGBOOM as a storm of tracer came at me from the high 6. But there was nobody there. And the text started working again just as I was dying. So I figure it was the bullets from the guy I "dodged" finally getting through to me.
6. ARENA "CLOSED"After this happened, I quit AH and tried to come back, hoping for a better connection. But the MA showed up as CLOSED on the menu so I couldn't get back in. However, several squaddies told me via ICQ that the MA was in fact still operating.
SUMMARYAll in all, the whole experience was very similar to being in the arena after a reset. The same warps, the same sporadic lagged text and damage, and then the arena finally being closed. So at 1st I thought maybe the nits or bish had been reset without me noticing. But squaddies still in the arena while it was "closed" for me said all sides were still pretty even so it wasn't a reset. So I dunno, but I didn't like it, regardless
