I've porked something badly, and can't figure it out. Perhaps some assistance?
I downloaded new drivers (Catalyst 3.1) for my Radeon 8500. First I uninstalled the previous drivers (version 2.3), then went about the intstallation process -- a process I've done successfully many times before; It's pretty hard to mess up just clicking buttons.
But I keep getting a message: Infsetup: Infsetup has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Infsetup will now close.
This happens after the files have been unpacked into the temporary folder, and at the point where I click "Yes" to accepting the license agreement, and I cannot proceed beyond this point. Infact, trying to click through it gets me dumped to a blue screen, then have to boot to get out of it.
So I went back and tried to re-install the 2.3's. No joy. Same result. Same error message.
Ditto for trying to re-install the original out-of-the-box driver from CD.
I've tried everything I can think of: Re-downloaded the drivers; made sure all background pgms were off; cleaned the registry; deleted the old folders; etc, etc, etc.
Next step is to try pulling the card and starting from scratch.
(My system has been working fine since Day 1 with the Catylist 2.3's ... probably should have left well enough alone, but the installation notes indicated I might get a boost in performance with the new ones).
Could it be I screwed something up in the uninstall process? Is there anything I can do to fix this "Infsetup" thingy?
I've e-mailed ATi support, but hopefully I can get a quicker answer from the tech gurus here.
