Joystick Frustrations
« on: February 12, 2003, 12:16:07 PM »
Note:  I posted a similar thread in the tech support forum a couple days ago but got no replies, so I come here in hopes of getting some ideas.

I've been thinking of making a bit of a comeback so I downloaded the latest versions of AH and WB3.  Re-installed my Sidewinder FF2 USB and my CH Pro Throttle USB.  Running Win98 with an AMD 1700+, 512 DDR and a Gforce 4 4200.  Now here's the problem...

Both the throttle and the FF2 stick are seen in the gaming control applet.  All buttons work fine, joystick works fine, throttle works fine.  However, if I go to fly EITHER WB3 or AH, the joystick doesn't work.  In the set up sections for both AH and WB3 I have chosen a multitute of different configurations in an atempt to make the sims see the joystick.  Here's the configs I have tried:

FF2 running everything.  Result - Nothing.  No control at all.

FF2 running flight controls, CH throttle running throttles. Result - Throttle response works.  No joystick control at all.

CH Throttle running everything.  Result - The tiny little "joystick" on the throttle runs the flight controls, throttle response works.

I've tried removing the throttle completely and using the FF2 only.  Same result.  Nothing.  No corntrol at all.  I've tried changing the controller number in the gaming applet and it makes no difference at all.  Still no stick control.

Note the results are the SAME for both AH and WB3 so I have to believe the problem is somewhere with the stick/throttle and WIn98, and not with the sims themselves.  Yet both throttle and stick seem to work just fine in the Win 98 Gaming Control applet.  I can calibrate and move the stick and the throttle and all buttons without any problems.  However, in both sims I cannot see any stick movement when I try to use the in-game stick centering/calibration routines.

Any ideas?

Win 98, or Win98SE? That could be the problem right there... USB had probs with 98.

Hobo, call me and ill fix you up. Can walk you threw the setup.
But the outline of items are.
1. Don't run the software that comes with the pro throttle.
2. Go into ah ,setup/select joystick choose the FF2 and press set all inputs press ok  and recalibrate.

after this you should be working completly on the FF2 but with out the CH throttle. If this is the case, go back to select joystick.

left window choose throttle 1
middle window choose ch pro throttle.
right window choose z axis.

press set input (NOTE NOT SET ALL INPUTS)

press ok and recalibrate.

Your throttle should now be working.

The reset is just the same as above but map all your pro thottle buttons to ah buttons 16 - 32

Thanks Hitech.  I'll call you this afternoon when I get home, if you are still at the office.  (4:30 PM Pacific)  Otherwise I'll call you tomorrow when I'll be home by about 2:00 PM Pacific.

FWIW It's original WIN98, not SE, but I am currently using 5 or 6 different USB items and all work just fine.  Including a mouse, a trackball, a printer, a keyboard, and now the joystick and throttle.

Also, FWIW Hitech...I tried doing what you described and basically had the same results.  However, I was using the throttle with CH's supplied software so maybe that was/is the cause.

Thanks for the fast response.  I'm actually excited about starting to smoke...err...um...fly again.  (They're both tough to quit addictions right?)  :)
