I didn't see this listed so I'll chime in and ask for it... Even if specific trackIR support isn't added like IL2 FB is getting just a mouse look will work for those with a hotas track ball. Doesn't take away the other view systems people want either.

You can do this now in Aces High by changing the view pan to your mouse axis input in the controllers setup. Works nicely with the TrackIR as AH seems to already have a small 'detent' at the centre of the screen so you can hold it there a little easier instead of pannign in small ammounts. That being said dedicated TrackIR support would be great!

While I haven't tried setting it to the mouse axis as you mentioned I've tried the panning and it is simply too slow for my taste... I'd prefer dedicated trackIP support but a true mouse look feature would be fine.

Having just loaded the new trackIR software (2.0) it is even more important that High Tech add direct "enhanced" support for the trackIR. Not very difficult from what I understand and it will simply ROCK if it is in there. Without it we can't even map keystrokes to it anymore so it looks like an all or nothing proposition.

OK, now having played IL2-FB with the enhanced support of the trackIR built in there is no going back... simply HAVE to have it in Aces High 2. Frees up 2 hats and is the most immersive improvement I've ever seen in a simulation period. I would trade the hotas and rudder pedals combined for this thing...

Are you talking about the TrackIR like the thing from E-Dimensional? And when you are talking about the HOTAS are you talking of the Saitek X-45? Sorry to butt in but I was just curious.

Sorry, I guess that looked confusing in hindsight... I didn't mean it would actually replace the hotas and pedals. I meant it was so important that I would rather give those up if it meant having one or the other (cost or whatever kept you from it). They do separate things of course.

Yes, the trackIR is available from eDimensional (although you can go straight to the trackIR.com site also) but it isn't the 3d eye glass deal. It's the head tracking unit that lets you move your head around to change views instead of using buttons and a hat switch.

another thought after seeing other posts on views...
Is it possible to implement a "shift-left"/"shift-right" key while adding the trackIR support? If the root position of the head can be temporarily shifted while still having the full head tracking feature you would solve all of the existing view posts combined. Of course with 2 trackIRs you could get it all at once also (has been mentioned in development by the trackIR folks and currently usable in MS Flight Sim 2002).

Could someone please explain in a little more detail how to make AH work with trackir? I try to map it to keystrokes but it never seems to do anything. THanks

Use FPS Mouseview mode on your trackIR the keystroke thing does'nt appear to work. Map your view pan in the Aces High control panel to your mouse axis. You need to hold down the right mouse button to pan but I have a joystick configuration that allows me to switch to pan view and simulate holding down the right mouse button with the press of one button.

depends what you are using for a stick. A word of advice, make SURE you map your TrackIR hotkeys to keys that arent used by AH or it wont work!!! ( just spent all weekend trying to get it to work when i realized that the trackIR mode key(F8) was the same as the AH pan view!! DOOOHHH)
I am using a Saitek X45 Hotas, for the pan viewing in AH the right mouse button has to be held down constantly, so I use my AUX1 button ( ok it really isnt a button, but a slider, so as long as it is in position 1, it is constantly sending the programmed key stroke). If you have a stick with regular DX buttons, you will need to map the key that trackir uses for "right mouse click" to a joystick button through AH's stick mapping in setup. Then for it to work, you will have to hold down the appropriate button constantly. So if Hitech would hurry up and add proper TrackIR support ( nudge nudge wink wink hint hint) this would all be moot!!!

I find the speed good ( you need to play with the speed and smothing sliders to get what you like), but I am having issues with a very small vibration. Still sorting it out. for now I blame it on my crew chief for shoddy maintenance on my spitty!

I really have to get after him and tune up the ol merlin!
