Spitfire XIV was in service operationally in January 1944 with No.610 Sqn, based at Exeter.

By September 1944 the Tempest and Spitfire XIV were the two most important air superiority fighters operated on the continent by the 2nd ATAF, which comprised RAF and RCAF Wings.

Just some info.

Regards.

Thanks for listening and be flexible, Sabre!

I like to fly the P-51B and the P-47D11 and -25 more than the later models.  Any chance those planes could be enabled as well?    I don't think they would be unbalancing; but would add more variety and plane choices.     I'm pretty sure these models would've still been flown alongside the newer versions during this time frame.

Thanks for listening Sabre.  If it hurts gameplay, I'll understand it being switched out for the Spitfire Mk IX.

No problem...just trying to give the best AH experience I can for all.  Hope it doesn't take me too long to set this up when I get home.  Got a going-away bash for a friend to get to;).

I am ignorant of actual plane performance for the most part so I believe what you say, it is just that the Ta-152 has such a reputation and the Tempest does not.  You know?  I would have thought the 152 was a better dogfighter while the Tempest was faster and that both accelerated well.

That modeling thing could be corrected sometime, no?

Yeah, but no La7, I knew it, no one ever listens to me.

The Burma scenario was the most fun I have had in AH for a long time :-). 10 out of 10 points.

just a punt to say I noticed no problems with the Spitfire XIV being overly dominant as they were relegated to the two RAF bases.  Most of the time I was in USAAF iron going against endless swarms of 109G-10s and the occasional Dora.  Was a lot of fun, and ol' Shane smacked me down (the punk got rid of all his E to stay on me.  shame on him!  ;) )   Later in the evening, I went up to the RAF side of things and had some fun in the Spit XIV.  It's a beastly plane, but the 109G-10 is a good match for it, and even a 110G-2 flown well can hang with it.  I raked a 110 flown by Nuttz in a rolling scissors and swore I broke him in two so I broke off.  It was just an engine fire and the next thing I know, 30 mm are ripping my Spit apart.    The rest of the night was spent outnumbered, low and slow with the likes of Brady and Nuttz on me at the same time.

Overall, I think I had some of the best fights I've ever had in the 1944 setups.  Anytime I flew the Spit XIV before, the sky was full of Me262s (or the Axis side was so understaffed I flew Axis.)  The numbers were perfectly balanced both nights I flew over the weekend and I had a lot of fun, even though I lost a lot of planes.  ;)

agree, spit14 v 109g10 a very close match up. the spit14 isn't a "spit" like a spit9 or spit5 -  it's a whole different beast.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

I treated it like a P-51D that can turn like a P-51B with combat flaps extended and faired well against most.   My first death in the Spit XIV was a 700 yard miracle tailgunner shot from a 110.  As soon as I heard the first ping, I went to disengage, but I heard 2 more pings then CRACK and there went the entire left wing!   That was a 5 kill sortie down the drain.  ;)  Nuttz got me fair and square for another death.  Then some guy got me in a 4 v 1.  Then Brady got me in another outnumbered situation.  Then Nuttz and Brady teamed me a little bit later.   You just cannot make a mistake against 30mm when the guy is a good shot.  ;)

I tell ya, that Spit XIV is a lot more fun than being in a P-51D when a 109 comes in with E...  and the pilot is Shane or Vulcan.  :)  I couldn't get Shane even close to overshooting.  I got Vulcan on the path to overshooting, but he got one hit in, and that's all it takes with the 30mm.  Frustrating to always lose, but good fun in retrospect.  :)

TY Nifty I was lucky:)

Yes I compleatly over rated the Spit XIV, it is not the uber beast I expected it to be.
