How about a forum for political/religious/sociological, and other such discussions, separate from the O'Club? Something like "The War Room" would be a nice name, in homage to Dr. SL
To me, and I bet to a lot of other people, coming to this BBS is simply not much enjoyable anymore because its been riddled with political/religious threads. Any other thread not political will quickly fly away from the first page.
Threads about aviation, technology, "funny" threads, good old rants, lifestyle threads, threads about computer gaming and flight simming, etc, are pushed away in a matter of minutes to give way to the same hostile discussions by the same people.
IMO it harms the comunity because it gives the impression that there is only conflict among members. A year ago you could come here and find a relatively friendly enviroment. Not anymore.
The other forum I frequent in
http:///www.arstechnica.com does this with nice success, they simply have a separate forum called "The Soapbox" which is specifically for that kind of discussion. It works like a charm.
I think this is a good idea and I doubt it will take much effort to implement.
So, what do you think?
And to the others reading this, do you agree? if not, why?
PS: This would NOT be a forum to flame others, but to discuss political/social/religious/etc discussions. Flamewars and ad-homs should not be allowed, not even there.
