Sir, I am the Squadron Commander of the BREWSTER BUFFALOS and have been its only Commander since that units creation. We have been an established squadron in AW going back to early 1995 and in AH from early 2000. My records show that our 'HOBO' (William Weeks) joined the Squadron in January of 1997 and he has been with us continually ever since. So, he is hardly 'the new Hobo' and he too has carried that name proudly for many years in this community. While he is not a day in, day out player as he once was, he is a popular member of our Squadron and contributes when he can.
I sympathize with your situation, I know how I would feel loosing 'Buff1' after eight plus years but it has happened often before in the AW/AH/WB community. Many of the veteran players have run into this issue. With the endless parade of newbies into AH, it will only get worse.
I will discuss it with Will asap, but I suspect I already know the answer. I know he is proud of it and he has as much long term attachment to the name as you obviously do. All I can say is he aquired it in AH first. Ces la vie........ but I will ask him about it in an e-mail tomorrow.

PS. I can assure you BNM meant no offense in his reply. He was merely defending a long time Squadmate he has known as 'HOBO' since '97.
