The picture sums up the late 70's quite well.

Dunno what's up with the old man in the wheel chair.  Guess we could sumise there all day.  I do know there's an entire group of people sitting to his left.  So far, the only excuse I've heard for it is "they were too tired to stand".  I'm going to go out on a limb and say Straffo has no idea what being too tired to stand really means.

I wonder how differently this picture would be viewed without the text pointing out the dude is standing and being from a different url that didn't include AmerciaForever..  Then again, the website is "talltexan.com"..

Looks to me like he's trying to drain some into his colostomy bag...

In two years this is the fifth lap of that picture through the Bulletin Board community. It's 30 years old, the arguements are tired, and all it does is take up space on the message boards.

Animal is right (for the first time ever)- all you do is have a mental circle jerk with muckmaw as the pivot man over and over again.

I'm getting tired of reruns.

Some of you are too easily manipulated.  Everything hinting at patriatism is not worthy of our respect and any picture can be spinned.

What if the caption had read:
"Ex-Marine, now disenfranchised with his country, stands up to moon the colour guard."

Just like flying the little plastic flags, honoring this picture or not has nothing to do with patriotism.

Apparently your quite familiar with the method of Circle Jerks. Perhaps you can explain what a 'Pivot man' is, for those of us who have not participated in one.

Did you gain this knowledge from watching it on video, or do you have "hands on" experience?

Well, I turned in my SUV (2000 Tahoe Limited Edition...God I loved that rig...until my wife took it over...something about child safety....blah blah blah)

But I now have my brand spanking new Chevy Monte Carlo SS, with a big ole American Flag across the rear window. (One of those clingy jobs that you can see through.)

And my father in law makes flag poles so I got a 35 footer for free, standing in my front yard.

BTW, if you need a flag pole, I can get you a great deal.

Shoot me an e-mail at jpizzo127@yahoo.com

Actually I did, after 9/11, until a former Marine who lived across the street from me explained the proper method for flying the flag.

Now I do it the correct way.

It's displayed on all days that there is no danger the weather will damage it.  It flies from sunrise to sunset on a stationary flag pole in the open. It is not flown at night, as I do not have a spotlight for it.

If your trying to piss me off, Frogman, your going to have to do better than that.

But interpreting a picture is hard and pretty dangerous ....

For exemple when I've seen this pict for the first time I wondered why the West-Point Cadet were waving a Soviet Union flag
=============================================

Wrong x 2:  That is not a Soviet flag, and that is not a West Point Cadet.  (Cadets uniforms are dark Grey)  That is a Marine Corps Color Guard.

The Man With the Rifle
« Reply #43 on: February 28, 2003, 03:18:20 PM »
Men may argue forever on what wins their wars,
And welter in cons and pros,
And seek for their answer at history's doors,
But the man with the rifle knows.

He must stand on the ground on his own two feet,
And he's never in doubt when it's won,
If it's won he's there; if he's not, it's defeat.
That's his test, when the fighting is done.

When he carries the fight, it's not with a roar
Of armored wings spitting death.
He creeps and crawls on earthen floor,
Butt down and holding his breath.

Saving his strength for the last low rush;
Grenade throw and bayonet thrust;
and the whispered prayer, before he goes in,
Of a man who does what he must.

And when he's attacked, he can't zoom away,
When the shells fill the world with their sound,
He stays where he is, lossens his spade,
And digs his defense in the ground.

That ground isn't ours till he's there in the flesh.
Not a gadget or bomb but a man.
He's the answer to the theories which start afresh,
With each peace since war began.

So let the wild circle of argument range
On what wins, as war comes and goes,
Many new theories may hold the stage,
But the man with the rifle knows.
